Mini Loom

Why buy a loom if you can make one yourself? This is a super easy DIY mini loom that you can make a bunch of cute tiny things with! You can also make a larger loom by using bigger materials.

Supplies

  1. Small piece of cardboard (I used 7x7 cm)
  2. 2 pieces of paper the same size as the cardboard
  3. Scissors
  4. String
  5. Glue
  6. Optional wrapping paper to make it pretty

Make the Main Part of the Loom

Wrap the cardboard with the wrapping paper as you would wrap a present. To do that, simply place the cardboard in the center of the paper and fold the left and right edges over. Then fold the top and bottom edges and glue them down.

Cut the Notches

The notches of the loom are where the warp (up-and-down) threads will go. With the scissors, make short cuts along the top and bottom edges that are 1/8 inch apart. You can adjust the spacing if you want.

Make the Dowels

The dowels are what keep your warp threads tight and not touching the loom. To make them, take your pieces of paper and roll them into tight sticks. Glue down the edges.

Then glue the sticks to the loom, so that the are right next to the notches but not covering them.

Add the Warp Threads

Wrap the string around the loom, making sure that it is tight and the strings go in the notches. Your loom is ready for your first weaving project!
