Mini Greenhouse from Upcycled Egg Cartons

You can have a nice place to start some seedlings and reuse those egg cartons that you would normally throw away (recycle). The greenhouse sports 12 biodegradable 'paper pots' that you can separate and plant directly into your garden after the seedlings are large enough. It also has a clear plastic dome over each plant.

Materials

All you need is:

1. A clear plastic egg carton. Usually 'upscale' eggs (free range, organic, etc.) are sold in these.

2. A budget cardboard egg carton to act as 'peat pots'.

3. Potting soil.

4. Seeds!

You will also need a pair of scissors.

Separate the Egg Cartons Into Their Parts

You will need to take the clear plastic egg carton apart. The one I had had a secondary dome unit under the label on the flat side which I had to remove so that I had only the flat tray and dome cover.

The cardboard egg carton will have to have its top removed. Then cut down the sides and center 'posts' until they are low enough to fit into the clear plastic tray allowing the domed top to close.

Poke a hole in the bottom of each 'pot' to allow for extra drainage.

The cardboard egg carton fits into the flat tray of the clear plastic egg carton so that the flat tray can catch excess water.

Add Potting Soil and Seeds

Add potting soil to each 'pot' and add your seeds. Water, close the domes place in a warm sunny spot and wait!

Remember to water periodically to keep the soil moist.

There you're done!

You will have to open the domes as your seedlings grow to give them room.

Just wait until your plants are large enough to transplant into your garden. Happy gardening!

Enjoy!
