Welcome to my 'ible' #43.

Fascinated and obsessed by my next project, in which I will attempt to land a model rocket vertically, using solid fuel motors, physics, a lot of calculation and ingenuity, I've decided to build a mini fog machine, to simulate the condensation of Liquid Oxygen, before the launch of the rocket.

Typical rocket fuels/oxidizers are super-cooled. The vapour visible is formed due to the extreme temperature difference.

Supplies

For this ible you need:

An atomiser for the E-cigarette, with an internal resistance of 1.5 to 2 Ohm.

A 3 Volt electric pump

A battery case 3x1.5V AA (4.5V)

1cm plastic pipe from a soap dispenser

45cm clear hosepipe

Soldering on iron (please use it if you have the appropriate age)

Hot glue gun (please use it if you have the appropriate age)

A 20x6cm piece of Correx

4 Zip ties

Electric wire

Glycerine 50ml

Distilled water (not de-ionized) 50ml

A drill with 3mm drill bit (for metal)

Connecting the Electric Wires to the Atomiser

This is the most tedious part of the building process.

You have to drill a hole, to slide inside the base of the atomiser the electric wires.

After that, solder the black cable to the external part of the atomiser and the white one, to the central part/positive

(being sure you are not covering the hole with the tin).

Glueing the Small Pipe to the Atomiser

Make 2 small cuts at the base of the pipe, that will avoid the electric wires get squashed/damaged.

Using the glue gun, glue the small pipe, being sure it makes a good seal.

Attaching the Electrical Pump

Following the polarity shown in my pictures, solder 2 electric wires to the atomiser (black/white).

After this task, solder them to the motor of the electric pump.

Preparing the Liquid

I've watched a lot of YouTube videos, but I came to the conclusion that the best liquid is made 50% with Glycerine and 50% by distilled water (not de-ionized).

Put 50ml of Glycerine and 50ml of distilled water in a jar, with a top.

Shake it a lot, to making the fluid smooth.

Please be aware this fog machine has been made for an outdoor use only.

Congratulations... You've Built Your 1st Mini Fog Machine!

Put the liquid you have previously prepared in the tank of the atomiser.

Connect the battery case (inserting in it 3x 1.5V AA batteries), following the same polarity (+ white - black) and using the switch attach to it, switch on/off the mini fog machine.

Please keep constantly an eye on the amount of liquid you are burning/vaporizing, otherwise you will burn the coils/resistances of the atomiser.

Attaching the Mini Smoke Machine to the Lauch Pad

Using a piece of Correx, I created a base for my Mini Smoke Machine, that I've attached at the base of the tripod using 4 zip ties.

I've attached to it using a piece of velcro and a rubber band.

I've also add a piece of clear hosepipe, to have the emissions of smoke nearly at the half of the rocket.

RC Mini Smoke Machine for Model Rocket Launch Pad

Following the wiring diagram of my previous 'ible'

https://www.instructables.com/id/Fake-Rocket-Motor...

I've wired a 1 channel remote controlled relay.

Now, I'm able to control the smoke machine remotely, adding the smoke effect to my model rocket, before launch.
