Minecraft Storage Chest Made From Cardboard
This is a simple cardboard storage chest inspired by Minecraft. The instructions are versatile for any box size and shape. Hope you like it.
Supplies
You will need:
- scissors or box cutter
- ruler
- pen or pencil
- glue stick/hot glue or double sided tape
- duct tape, regular tape, and painters tape ( if you don’t have black tape)
- black paint (if using painters tape) and silver metallic acrylic paint
- brown construction paper or color of your choice
- a box and a little extra cardboard
Tape Up the Box
Tape up the top, bottom and top back of the box where the hinge will be.
Measure, Mark, Cut
Measure and mark 2-4 in from the top of the box on three sides to create the lid, then cut along the line.
Reinforce
On the inside of the lid, score a line where the top will hinge, then tape it with duct tape. Reinforce the hinge sides and tape the box folds on the inside as well.
Note: if using a long or large box, hot glue or tape cardboard braces to the inside walls to keep it from buckling out when stuff is placed inside.
Cover It
Use your adhesive of choice to stick the paper onto the box. The edges will be covered with tape so don’t worry about completely covering it with paper.
Tape the corners and edges to create the borders.
If you have black tape to cover the edges then skip to step 6
Painters Tape for the Borders
Paint the edges of the box covered with painters or masking tape black. Use two- three coats.
The Latch
Cut two pieces of cardboard 3in long by 2in wide. Glue them together and paint one side with metallic paint. Alternatively you can use gray duct tape.
Attach the latch to the top lid only, the rest will just hang over the bottom.
Note: if you don’t want the lid to open all the way add a string to one or both sides of the inside of the box.
Finished
You’re all done! Enjoy😉
