Minecraft Creeper From Pallet Wood

IMG_0865.JPG

This is an very easy to make and cheap way to make an awesome Minecraft Creeper out of wood.
Just use all the things you can find from a wooden pallet. I made it together with a student from grade 7 during Woodworking class in our Makerspace.

Have fun building it!

Gather the wood from pallets. There are a lot of ways to do this. I will not go in detail on how to do it.
I have found this instructable very useful to explore the different ways of disassembling pallets.

You have to gather 5 blocks and 4 planks.

Paint!

We used a standard green as the base.
We waited till the paint was dry.

Then we applied painters tape to create the pixel effect that's so typical for minecraft. We gave each "pixel" a different kind of green with a few white and brown in between.

When te paint was still wet, we took the tape off. So the paint wouldn't "break". I was very happy with the result!

Screw It!

The last part was to screw everything together. First dril a small hole in the wood, because you don't want the wood to split. Then we used common screws to put it all together. First you make the body, then you attach the head and last the feet. For the blocks we used very long screws. First we drilled a hole through the whole block and then we drove the screw through. It turned out to pretty sturdy.
