Minecraft Castle - Lasercut and Digital

In this Intructable you can learn how to build your own Minecraft castle, in the game and also in real life!

These programs are free to download from the internet. You will need them to be able to lasercut your castle later on.

Simply search the website for 'minecraft castle' and pick a design you like.

Once you've found a castle you like, you can download it as an .stl file to your computer. If you open this file in 123D Design you can look at it from different angles. This will make it easier for you to duplicate it in Minecraft.

Now the easy bit is over.. On to the part that's a bit more difficult.

Open the castle you saved from Thingiverse and 123D Design in 123D Make. Now we are going to make the settings to do the laser cutting.

1. In the left of your screen, set the 'Manufacturing settings' to the size of the material you're working with. For example; we used plywood in A4-size. We would recommend using plywood and not carton paper, because apparently it sets on fire easily (we found that out the hard way...)

2. In 'Object size' you can make your castle the size you want it to be. Take into consideration that the bigger you make it, the more material you will need.

3. In 'Construction technique' we used 'Stacked slices' because it was the best looking for this particular castle. Feel free to mess around with this and see what looks you like.

4. Happy with the result? Click on 'Get plans' in the bottom of the screen to see the sheets you will be putting in the laser cutter.

The design you made in 123D Design and123D Make you can transport into a lasercutter. Make sure to customize your settings to the size and thickness of the material you're using.

After cutting you can stack the pieces according to the instructions in 123D Design.

Redefine your castle in Minecraft. You can use the 3D model you made as an example.
