Minature Tufted Bed

In this instructable you'll learn how to make a miniature bed with recycled materials.
The tufted finish will make it look luxurious and very real. Don't worry it's not difficult to make, just follow the steps and in a couple of hours you'll have your own.

• A cereal box
• An old baby blanket
• Old tights (if you have little girls you'll have at least one with holes, those are perfect)
• Styrofoam from packaging
• Scissors
• Pencil
• Craft knife
• Thread
• Needle
• Gluegun
• Stuffing

Start by deciding the size of the bed. I want mine for Barbies.

The box spring will have two parts. So cut and arrange the styrofoam so you have the length you want and half of the width. Don't worry if you don't have a piece of styrofoam big enough, as you can see I used three pieces to achieve the length I wanted.

Cut a piece of tight the same size as the styrofoam.

Tuck the styrofoam inside the tight.

Repeat so you have two identical pieces.

Draw in the cereal box the shape of the headboard.

Cut it out and use it as a template to draw and cut a second piece.

One of those will be the back, just glue a piece of tight to cover it.

With the second piece of headboard, draw dots to mark the spots we'll sew.

Punch the holes with a needle, a thick one works better.

Glue the stuffing to the top half of the headboard. Don't put glue near the holes.

Take another rectangle of tight, cover the headboard, and glue it at the back to upholster the headboard.

To make the tufting, just use the thread and needle to make small stitches where the cardboard is pierced. Just make the needle go through the hole from the back to the front, then go back through the same hole.

To join the pieces, cut another rectangle of cereal box. 5cm longer than the base but not as wide.

Glue the two pieces of the box spring to the cardboard.

Fold the remaining cardboard, glue to the front of that flap the tufted side of the headboard.

And to the back of it the plain upholstered part of the headboard.

Glue the box spring to the headboard as shown in the last picture.

Fold the baby blanket the size of the bed, and cover it with white fabric.

I didn't glue the mattress because it's easier to make the bed with the mattress detached.

Now your bed is ready for a cute bedding set. Just grab some fabric and fold it around the mattress. I upcycled old baby clothes and socks to make the bedding set and cushioins.

Baby clothes are perfect because they usually have a tiny pattern.
