Metal Tray Succulent Design
Hello everyone! I recently created a metal tray succulent display, and I love how it turned out. This DIY project takes just a few materials, and most of them I purchased at my local Dollar Tree.
Supplies
One metal bottle cap--Purchased at Dollar Tree, and yes, it is labeled metal bottle cap in the craft
section of the store
One glass candle holder--Purchased at Dollar Tree
Chalk paint--I'm using black for the metal cap, and mineral for the glass candle holder.
Faux Succulents- My main big succulent was purchased at Dollar Tree. Smaller ones were purchased a while back at Michael's.
Floral snips
Hot glue
E6000
Spanish moss-Purchased at Dollar Tree
Home sweet home mini sign--Purchased at Michaels
Start off by taking the rope off of your metal cap. The rope was originally there for hanging your metal cap. For this project, we don't need it. Just poke them through the holes on each side.
Next, apply your black paint onto your metal cap. Between coats, I used a blow dryer to help with the drying process. You will need around four coats of chalk paint to completely cover your metal cap.
Now you are ready to apply paint to your glass candle holder. Take your candle holder, and apply your paint onto the glass surface. I'm using a paint called mineral. I applied around four coats of paint and repeated the drying process with this as I did for the metal cap.
Next, take your adhesive, and hot glue. Apply a thin layer of your adhesive onto your glass candle holder. You can apply both hot glue, and adhesive for extra hold.
Once everything is completely dry, take your succulents, and floral snips. If needed cut any long stems. I pre-cut my succulents to size.
Taking your succulents, apply a small amount of hot glue on the bottom side of each succulent flower.
Add each succulent to the front side of your metal cap.
All that is left is to take your Spanish moss and add it behind your succulents, and a little behind your mini sign. I added a thin layer of hot glue before placing my moss down.
Once you have added your succulents, take your mini sign and add it on the inside back section of your metal cap using a little hot glue. --You can do this step before adding your moss, or after.
You're all done! All that is left is to display your beautiful creation.
