Metal Table Legs

I had a wooden table top that did not have any legs to go with it. I decided to make table legs to go with it. It is a very fun and easy project if you have a table with bad legs or if you just want to try making something cool.

The materials used were about 18ft of 3in hammered edge 3 in squared tubing, 8 weld tabs, 8 #14 by 5/8 hex head screws, 14in cold saw, Tungsten inter gas (TIG) welder, 4in angle grinder with 80 grit flat disk and a Milwaukee impact gun.

Cut 4 32in long pieces 45 degrees at each end. Then cut another 4 19.5in pieces 45 degrees at each end using a 14in cold saw.

Use the 4in an angle grinder to clean up the edges of the cuts. Make sure the edges are nice and smooth with no jagged edges or hanging metal. Do not grind down enough to change the shape of the edges.

Once you have found the shape that you would like your legs to be at. Use the TIG welder and tac your pieces into place make sure that your pieces of metal line up as nicely as they can with the smallest gaps possible. After Taced used the TIG welder to weld all of the seams shut. After the Metal has been welded together go over and make sure you did not forget any.

On two of the 32in long pieces TAc and weld the Tabs on both sides 4 inches away from the end. Each Leg should have 4 making in total on both legs.

Position the Legs on the Table how you would like. I used a measuring tape to make sure that the legs were symmetrical on the table. After determining where you would like the legs to be then use the impact gun to drill the #14 by 5/8 hex head through the wholes of the tabs and into the table.

The metal legs make the table very sturdy. The table was designed to be able to withstand weight and to be strong and sturdy and to last in a house with children.
