  • This is an old blade I found while cleaning up an old property it looks old and needs a handle This is what I had laying around I am using an old dresser leg I found while throwing out the trash one day

Supplies

supplies you need a drill a wire wheel various files to shape the handle epoxy or jb weld sandpaper some varnish if you want to stain the handle and clear coat to seal the new finish also have to find a blade that needs a handle or one that is in need of a new handle a Wire wheel to remove the rust would work well i used a wire wheel it will mess your day up if a piece of wire gets stuck in your eye.a wire wheel attachment that i used on the end of a drill it works remember to use safety glasses, drill out the handle I used a 3/8" bit to drill down the center and stepped it down to the end to a 1/2"

Before I epoxy it on the blade I'll shape the handle so it will fit better in my hand I drew lines to kind of know what shape I want it to be.

make sure you measure the end that will go into the handle and drill in the center of the handle to the right depth then test fit with your blade

i used several files to shape the handle also used sandpaper to make it smooth so i can stain and last polyurethane the handle and let it dry overnight

After getting the handle to the shape you want it you can use any stain to change the color of the handle and a clear to protect it most blades use rivets to hold the handle to the blade on mine i will not since there are not any holes for them this blade looks hand made and i found it in the sand with my metal detector it had no handle or any remains that were found with it,if anybody might have some info they would share that would be greatly appreciated their seems to be a maker mark on the blade any info on the type of blade it might could be or what it was used for would be great
