Meow-So-Yummy! Frozen Treats for Cats

My three feline friends love to spend time outside during the summer, but just like you and me, they do get hot and want to cool off.

I created this kitty-friendly recipe for them including some of their favorite flavors.

Hope your cats love them just like mine do!

For this recipe you will need:

Ingredients:

• A bottle feline formulated milk*. You can find it at any food or pet supply's store.
• Fresh papaya. Yes, just like the one you and I eat. Don't worry, it is safe for cats.
• Cat's malt snacks. I used anti-hairball bites.

Tools:

• A cutting board
• A fruit knife
• A hand held blender
• A set of measuring cups
• A spoon
• A silicone ice tray

And... some cats!

*Attention: Never give regular milk (like the one humans drink) to cats! They are lactose intolerant and you can get them really sick by doing so.

Using the knife and a cutting board, remove all the seeds and skin from the papaya and cut the fruit in dices.

Now measure the ingredients in the following proportions:

• 1 cup diced papaya
• 1/2 cup feline formula milk
• 1/4 cup malt snacks

I have 3 adult cats at home and they like to eat. These amounts are good enough to make two trays of treats but feel free to duplicate or halve the amounts as needed while maintaining the proportions.

Add the papaya and the kitty-milk to a big glass and mix it together using a hand held blender.

Make sure all the pieces are blended and no chunks of fruit are found.

Tip: You can also use a stand blender or a "bullet" kind of blender; like the ones used for smoothies.

Using a spoon put the recently blended smoothy on the ice trays making sure you don't fill it to the top.

I used silicone ice trays so that the treats could easily unmold. Also, I selected the star-shaped ones so that the cats could have treats in shapes they could easily bite and/or lick.

If you do not have fancy shaped ice trays don't worry, regular ones will work just as well.

Add a couple of malt snacks to the ice trays.

This is an optional step. Cats love the fruity frozen treats just like that but by adding the bite snacks I make sure my furry friends get some malt that will help them with the hairballs they get by linking themselves while shedding through summer.

Once you added the snacks (or not) place the trays in the freezer for at least 4 hours.

That is it! Take the treats out of the freezer and give them to your furry friends after a hot summer day. As you can see, all of them approve of them (Yay!)

Make sure you use a dish/tray with an elevated edge otherwise you will see your kitty licking-following a frozen treat all around your floor.

Oh! and do not freak out if your cats get brain freeze the first time they try them. It is totally OK, they will get through it and keep enjoying your treats.
