3D Printed Medal

I made this because someone would need to make this type of medal at some point in their life.

Sketch 1

Let's focus on the medal before the spikes, then the hole.

  1. Set length unit to mm
  2. Start the sketch at the top view
  3. Draw a circle at middle point
  4. Draw another circle at middle point
  5. Dimension 1 circle to 100 and the other 150

Spikes - Note: The triangle placed is not accurate so it is okay.

  1. Draw a vertical constructed line
  2. Make a small isosceles triangle on top of the circle (it should be pointing at top)
  3. Dimension the triangle to 20 mm by clicking two circle points, not the top one. (look for the two red dot in the picture for dimensioning)
  4. Use circular pattern to make 12 of them

Medal

  1. Make a vertical line at a triangle next to the top one (Look for a red dot at a triangle)
  2. Do the same thing but on the other side
  3. Dimension both vertical line to 51.801 mm
  4. Make a horizontal line at the top of vertical line, connecting from left line point to the other side
  5. Dimension the top horizontal line to 57 mm.

Hole - Note: It was placed randomly but try to do near the middle

  1. Make a vertical line near the left side of the medal
  2. Mirror the line by using the tool and select the vertical line on the plane, then click the line to have it be created on the other side
  3. Make a horizontal line for the top and bottom to create a rectangle.
  4. Dimension the top horizontal line to 57 mm
  5. Click the dots at the top left corner of hole rectangle and top left corner of outside of rectangle, dimension it to 5 mm.

Extrude the Medal Hole

  1. Use the extrude tool which is next to sketch tool on the right. (Make sure extrude tool says solid and new)
  2. Click on outside of the hole.
  3. Enable symmetric and set depth to 15 mm.
  4. Click the checkmark.
  5. Edit appearance to gray.

Extrude the Spikes

  1. Use the extrude tool
  2. Click on all of the spikes
  3. Enable symmetric and set depth to 7 mm.

Extrude the Outer Circle

  1. Use the extrude tool.
  2. Click on the circle that is like a ring.
  3. Enable symmetric and set depth to 10mm.
  4. Click the checkmark.
  5. Click on Part 2-13, edit appearance to dark yellow.

Extrude the Inner Circle

  1. Use the extrude tool (this time, set it to add).
  2. Click on the circle.
  3. Enable symmetric and set depth to 15 mm.
  4. Edit appearance of Part 14 to #FAB601 R: 250 G: 182 B:1

2022 Instructables Contest Text

  1. Make a sketch and select the top of the medal
  2. Draw a text box and type in "2022 Instructables Contest"
  3. Dimension the length of the text to 80 mm.
  4. Dimension the position by clicking on the vertical line on the right side and the outline to 10 mm

#1 First Place Text

  1. Draw another text box
  2. In typing, have the #1 and First Place centered and bold
  3. Dimension the length to 70 mm
  4. Drag the text box position below middle but not too close to the bottom of the outline (does not have to be perfect)
  5. Checkmark Sketch 2

Extrude Text

  1. Use extrude tool
  2. Click on both texts (Make sure it is set to new)
  3. Set depth to 2 mm
  4. Edit appearance of Part 15 - 51 to orange (#F88701 R: 248 G: 135 B: 1)
