Measuring Tape Speaker

Ok everyone, this is my first instructable so please comment. Well I was bored and i had a broken tape measure laying around and decided to make a speaker box out of it. This is a fun and simple project. This is also really great if your new at soldering. Sorry for the bad quality pictures I'm taking them with my phone.

Supplies

Parts:

tape measure

small speaker that will fit in the case

3.5 mm audio jack

wire

solder

Tools:

phillips screwdriver

hot glue gun

dremel

wire cutters and strippers

safety glasses (not shown)

Take Apart Tape Measure

Use the screwdriver to unscrew the screws on the back of the measuring tape. Remove the "guts" of it. (be careful doing this because it may spring out).  The tape part isn't in the pictures because it wouldn't fit in the pics.

Dremel the Case

Put on the safety glasses and use the dremel tool to carve out the case so the speaker will fit. I had a stem in the middle of mine that i cut out and i had to carve out the part where the tape comes out so the jack could fit. Then use a drill or the dremel to drill holes for the speaker.

Soldering the Speakers

This is really easy to do. All you have to do is solder 2 wires from the audio jack to the speaker. I would test with alligator clips before you do this to insure you know where to solder the wires and to make sure your speakers work.

Glue in the Speakers

Put the speakers and audio jack into the case and hot glue them in place.

Put It Back Together

Make sure everything is complete and screw the back of the case back on. I also hot glued the belt clip on the back of it since I couldn't screw it back on.

All Done!

Now plug in your cd player, mp3 player, phone, or whatever and test it out. I hope you enjoyed this instructable. thanks for viewing :)

p.s.  I also have a 2nd version of this i'm working on so hopefully ill get it posted here soon
