To make this project your need-

  • A laptop that can run 3d sketching software easily
  • A 3d printing
  • Paper and stationery
  • Your mental stamina

Sketching

Grab out your paper and draw a sketch of your desired maze, in a cube net format.

It should look something like this.

(Add flaps on the sides for additional next step)

Draft Folding (optional)

Cut out your maze cube net design, pre-crease and fold on the lines joining each cube side together (If you are unsure how to do this, watch this youtube clip on how to fold cube nets = https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ICmzPt3St7o ). Then, glue each side together using the flaps you created in the previous step.

Your draft should look something like this.

Find Your 3D Sketching Software

Excellent, now, when you are happy with your design (keep scrapping your designs until you're happy with your final one). Open up your laptop and find a 3d sketching software, my suggestions would include-

  • Fusion 360 (Yes, you need to pay, although if you are still in school, apply for educational access for free. If you are still unhappy, try the next option).
  • Onshape (Yes, yes, this is a free-to-use web software. All you need to do is sign up, and you can get started on the next step).

If none of these options appealed to you, go find your own.

Create New Sketch

Create new (---).jpg

Once you have access to your 3d sketching software I would like you to create a new design (Fusion 360), a new document (Onshape) or a new (whatever) on the software that you are using.

Please note,

For my example, I will be using Onshape.

Making the Cube

Click the sketch button and select square, Draw a square approx (6x6 cm). Find the extrude button and extrude the base by (1mm) in thickness. Then sketch your lines on the square you have created with the line function. Extrude it make sure you are on the surface option and not the solid. Then you have the choice of making your maze lines thicker or thinner with the extrude function.

Test Print

Once you have finished the first side of your maze cube on your sketching software, print it out with your 3d printer (Sorry don't know how to use one, so I can't give you detailed information on that). If you're happy with it move on to the next step, if you are unsatisfied, however, either resketch and reprint or move on.

Test Result

The result of your test print should look something like this.

All Sides

Now that you are satisfied with the outcome of your side, create 5 more sides of different designs.

It should look something like this.

Print All

3D print all your sides and your extra components out.

Join Together

Join them all together with glue, super glue is suggested although you can use whatever you like.
