You may be wondering what a mathematically correct pie is? I'll tell you what it is!

Since a pie is round and a circle with a radius of 1 has the circumference of 2𝝅, therefore 1 pie is 2𝝅.

If we approximate pi to 3.14, this means that 1 pie = 2*3.14 <=> pie = 6.28

Therefore, a mathematically correct pi is not only round, it contains 6.28 ingredients! No more, no less.

If you don't believe me, check out this wikipedia page of circumference a little bit.

With that out of the way, this is a recipe for the easiest and fastest (and best tasting) pie you will ever make.

Let's begin!

Supplies

Since I am accustomed to work in metric units, this recipe will be in regards to metric units and the imperial units converted with google. If this means that the imperial measurements may be a bit odd, just round them up or down if you don't care about measuring 1.3672 cups of flour.

Utensils:

  • Two bowls
  • Measuring cups
  • Pie form

Filling:

  • Berries or fruit (I prefer blueberries) [500 g or 17.63 oz]
  • Sugar [0.5 dl or 0.2 cups]
  • Flour [2 tablespoons or... what do you know, we may not be so different after all]

Crumble

  • Sugar [1 dl or 0.4 cups]
  • Flour [2 dl or 0.8 cups]
  • Oats (rolled or cut) [2 dl or 0.8 cups]
  • Vanilla powder [0.5 teaspoon]
  • Butter [150 g or 5.29 oz]

Now let's count the ingredients to make sure the pie is legit.

  1. Berries
  2. Sugar
  3. Flour
  4. Oats
  5. Vanilla powder
  6. Butter

Now the mathematically inclined may be wondering, didn't you say it was supposed to be 6.28 ingredients? Well, 0.14 of an ingredient is a pinch of salt and the remaining 0.14 is a pinch of love. So that's that.

Prepare Filling

Put the filling of your choice in a bowl, add sugar and flour and stir with a spoon. Find a fitting form and make sure it has enough room for filling and crumble, planning ahead is key here.

Preheat an oven to 200 degrees Celsius (392 Fahrenheit).

Make Crumble

In a different bowl, mix together the dry crumble ingredients and add room temperature butter. Mine was a bit cold so I cut it up into chunks and the used two knives as a make shift scissor to cut the into smaller bits in the dry ingredients. Then work it a bit with your hand and try to smush it all together a bit. When you are content with your soon-to-be crumble, add it on top of your filling.

Put it in the oven and wait for approximately 31.4 minutes (you see what I did there?).

When the crumble is golden and the filling starts to bubble, take it out of the oven and let it cool down.

Eat the Pie

When the pie has cooled a bit, cut out a nice chunk and add a scoop of ice cream (or vanilla sauce (which is kind of a loose custard), which we usually do in Sweden). I'm a bit lazy so I will just chuck a bit of ice cream on that bad boy.

Enjoy the pie and think about how the radius of the circle is connected to its circumference through pi, or try to memorize as many decimals of pi as you can, my personal best is 20.
