Matching DIY Holiday Stockings for Christmas With Designs
I wanted to have a set of stockings that match for the whole family, while also having a personalized Christmas stocking for each family member. Using soft felt, batting for extra plushness, and some felt you’ll have custom stockings to hang on the mantle in no time. Perfect for both beginners and experienced crafters, this project lets you add your own unique touch to each stocking or provides you ideas to copy.

Cutout Stocking Template
Download and print the PDF file. Use standard letter paper (8.5 x 11), and print at actual size in portrait orientation. Then tape them together as shown. Cut out and transfer to the stocking fabric, batting, and inner lining, then cut out. I used a thick upholstery fabric for the stocking, but you can use felt here instead if you prefer.

Draw Out Your Ideas
Sketch out your ideas, pick out designs, and resize for the stockings. Or you can download one these designs here:
Transfer and Cutout
Trace out designs for each piece and cut out. Transfer to felt by tracing with a sharpie. Cut out felt and do a test assembly of the design.
Add Iron on and Trim
Iron on the adhesive material to appropriate color of felt, then cut out each part.
Assemble Designs
Assemble the design, peel the adhesive material and iron together. Only cutout and iron where the pieces need to come together. In the next step we'll peel the rest and iron onto the stockings.
Iron Onto Stockings
Peel and iron on the design onto each stocking piece. Be sure to iron them onto what will be the front pieces.
Sew Top Fur
Sew the top fluffy piece first using the furry fabric and a woven fabric. This will be sewn inside out, then them flip right side out.
Sew Stocking
Sew the top cuff together first on one side, then onto the assembled stocking halves inside out leaving the other edge un-sewn. Then fold and sew the stocking edges. Sew the final cuff edge together. Then trim off any excess fabric.
Sew Hanging Hook
Sew on a hanging hook from a scrap piece of fabric. First sew into a strip that is about 6 inches long, then fold over and sew on the side at an angle onto the lining fabric.
Right Side Out
Turn the stockings right side out shaping out the rounded corners. Then hang them on your mantle or fireplace.
Hang Your Stockings
You can use these command strip hooks. (https://amzn.to/48Cv8xr), or download and 3D print these hooks to hang (you'll need some double sided tape). Merry Christmas and Enjoy!
