Ideation

I wanted to create a very small box with an open top that I could use to hold matches.

When designing my box I used parameters to easily design the height and length of the box while also easily incorporating the width of the plywood, making the sketch design very easy. I designed single finger knots on three edges of the side pieces and all edges of the bottom piece to keep it secure. When was done I realized it was way too big and changing the parameters ended up effecting my whole design, so I decided to just start it over. It was easier the second time around since I knew more of the steps without having to look them up on the guide. I made it smaller and carved out a heart on two of the sides.

After creating my adobe file and laser cutting, I started to assemble the pieces. The kerf setting made the pieces pretty hard to piece together but eventually I got them together and they fit tightly which was nice because the box held together ad was sturdy.

Finishing

To finish off my design, I painted the match box white and blue, and added a piece of the paper match box I used that I though was cute, which said "match made in heaven". I also glued the match striker on one of the sides so that you could actually light matches using my design, as shown in the video attached. The joints didn't fit together perfectly, It looks like maybe my ply parameter was incorrect. But it still looks cute with the edges sticking out.
