Marvel's Black Panther Equipment Vault
Welcome To My Final Project - Physical Computing at Boston College - Professor John Gallaugher
made by: Daniel Flores
This idea for the final project sprouted from my love for comic books, specifically Marvel Comic books. There is one superhero in particular that stands out from the rest, and that is the Black Panther. When the movie came out in 2018 I was mesmerized. This project is an attempt to create a vault for the Black Panther helmet. In this case, we have a replica miniaturized helmet. This was 3D printed as well and scaled-down. The vault works with a fingerprint scanner to only allow those who are worthy to wield the power of the Black Panther.
Supplies
Arduino Nano RP2040 Connect, Pin-to-Pin wires (9), a breadboard, two buttons, an Adafruit Fingerprint scanner, a speaker with a 3.5 mm jack, a servo motor, 3D printed model of Black Panther helmet, and a cardboard box (painted black)
Configuring Your Arduino Nano RP2040 Connect
First, you will need to install CircuitPython on the board in order to work with the code that I will be providing for this project. Here is a quick guide on how to do this from the Adafruit website:
Installing CircuitPython on Arduino Nano RP2040 Connect
This will allow you to program
Soldering Pin-to-Pin Wires to the Fingerprint Scanner
The fingerprint scanner from Adafruit comes with an adapter, but in order to work with the breadboard that I have, I needed to cut and strip each wire and solder a pin-to-pin wire to each of them (as seen above). This would allow me to connect the fingerprint scanner to the breadboard.
Using the Breadboard to Attach Buttons, Servo, and Fingerprint Scanner
The external buttons, fingerprint sensor, and LED strip all go connected on the breadboard
Each external device required power and ground so using the breadboard allowed me to place these multiple devices to complete my project
3D Printed - Black Panther Helmet
The 3D design for the Black Panther helmet cannot be credited to me. I was able to find an awesome design on Thingiverse from a designer named Happy Moon
I scaled it down using the PrusaSlicer Software and printed it on a Prusa Mini.
The Vault
I used a box to design my vault. You can decorate as you please, but I went with a Black Panther logo, as well as, some Wakanda designs.
