Mango Freeze
The Mango Freeze was born out of three things.
- A love of Mangos
- A love of soft serve
- A love of not leaving the house
Picture a hot summer day. The type of day where you can see the heat waves rising off the asphalt. You go to your freezer looking for some sweet frozen relief only to discover you have no ice cream or even ice cream adjacent deserts. You think "I could make it to the store" but one step outside your door and the harsh light of the sun quickly disabuses you of that notion. So it's back to the refrigerator to try an conjure a summer miracle. It was just this scenario that lead to the creation of the two ingredient Mango Freeze.(Just between you and me it doesn't have any added sweeteners.)
Supplies
To make the Mango Freeze you only need 3 things.
- A powerful blender
- Whole milk (you could possibly use coconut milk but I've never tried it)
- Frozen Mango chunks
Measurements Smeshurments
Lets face it the non metric way of measurements when it comes to recopies is very broken. With that in mind I'll tell you what I do and you might need to tweak things depending on your blender, the size of your mango chunks, and whether or not Mercury is in retrograde. However that will be a small price to pay for this sweet escape from the summer heat.
I use a generous 2 cups of mango chunks and enough milk to mostly cover the mango chunks about 1.5 cups of Milk. If your Mango Freeze is too thick to blend add more milk. If it is too runny add more mango. If you look at my picture you can see that the milk almost covers the mango chunks. I've found this ratio to lead to success.
Dump N' Blend
Dump your Mango chunks in the blender then add the milk. Now that you've added all the ingredients it's time to let the modern kitchen marvel the blender do it's stuff. Start at a slow speed and gradually increase your speed until the Mango Freeze starts to thicken up and eventually you can see 4 lumps on top of the blender and it seems like your blender isn't doing anything any more. In the end we're looking for the consistency of frozen yogurt or soft serve. At this point if you had a long enough spoon and couldn't wait any longer you could dig right in.
Garnish and Enjoy
If you managed to resist the urge to eat it all right out of the blender might I suggest scooping it into your favorite bowl and adding a single frozen chunk of Mango as a garnish. Now that it's pretty you can finally enjoy a delicious escape from the heat. If you have extra and a popsicle mold you can make Mango Freezesicles. I hope you enjoy this not too sweet way to beat the heat as much as my family and I do. Happy blending.
