Making of Typodont Model for Fixed Orthodontics

This is to help students to prepare their own typodont model for learning fixed orthodontics

1. Loosen the Upper and Lower jaw member screws to separate the members from the typodont articulator
2. Use A Spring Forming Plier Or Any Other Suitable Plier To Remove.
3. Grip the brackets tightly and twist it. The bracket will be loosened; Repeat this for all brackets.
4. All brackets are removed.

Grip the tube of the molar bracket tightly. Twist the tube for several times. The molar band will be removed.

Repeat the above procedures for all molar bands.

1. Prepare a straight screw driver.
2. Loosen the screw with the screw driver; remove the base metal plate of the model frame.
3. The upper and lower metal plate are removed.

1. Flush the frame with hot water; remove the wax block from the frame.

3. Method A: Flush the teeth with hot water.
4. Metallic teeth will be removed from the wax block automatically.
5. Method B: Use a wax knife.
6. Cut between the embrasures of the teeth.
7. Teeth can then be extracted out individually.
8. Collect all teeth; Don’t mix up upper and lower teeth sets.
9. Clean the labial surface of each tooth with a craver or a wax knife.
10. Each tooth has a label on the root surface.

1. Insert each tooth onto the silicone impression. Make sure that it is in correct position. Insert the molar first will help in positioning all posterior teeth.
2. All teeth are inserted correctly.
3. Insert the hollow metal frame to corresponding rubber impressions: V shaped is for Upper; U shaped is for Lower.
4. Molten wax is poured into the empty space.
5. More molten wax is added up to the edge of the frame.
6. Wax will shrink and will leave an empty space. More wax may be added if the space is too large. Otherwise the wax base will collapse during the activation process.
7. After 1 hour, the casts are removed from the mold.
8. Check if the positions of the teeth are correct; if not, adjustment can be made after loosening the tooth by heating the tooth with a mini torch. 

1. Now the teeth are in correct position. Remove excess wax from the bottom part of the metal frame.
2. Place the metal plate back to the frame (V for Upper and U for lower); Tighten the screws for both upper and lower models.
3. Put the lower model back to the articulator and tighten the lock screw for lower model. Secure the bite on the model.
4. loosen the screws on the lateral posts and the upper rotatory screw.
5. Position the upper jaw member in an adequate position. Press firmly the upper jaw member against the lower jaw member. Tighten the upper jaw member screw.
6. Tighten the rotation screw. Then tighten the screw on the lateral posts.
7. Check the relationship.
