Making a Record Case Out of the Ikea Trissa
Ikea was having a sale on these boxes and they looked like they would slide right into my Expedit bookcase that I have my turn tables on but that was not the case. However it wasnt to far off.
The Cutdown
The normal Trissa box is 13 3/4 inches wide
The opening in the Expedit is 13 inches which means that we need to shave 3/8 of an inch off each side. We have to cut evenly off of both sides so the handle cutout remains in the middle.
The bottom also needs to loose some girth it starts out as a square 13 and 1/4 inch. One side needs to be hacked down to 12 and 1/2 inches.
Now for 45s there is a smaller Trissa box. It starts off with a face that is 9 1/8 by 8 1/2 we are going to make it into 8 1/8 by 8. We do this by shaving 1/2 inch off the two sides and the top.
Then cut 1/2 inch off the top of each of the sides. The bottom needs to be cut 1 inch off one side down to 7 3/4 inch.

Making the Cut
I dont have a very good saw and since being square is important I ran down to my local big box home improvement store. I had all the measurements clearly drawn on the wood and the guy just cut them.
Get Out the Drill
So the last modification left was drilling the screw holes in the front. I used the sides as a guide, they have a pilot hole drilled into them. I matched up the bottoms of the two pieces and then marked the two holes 1/4 inch in. I drilled them with a 3/32 inch bit and then screwed them together.
Final Project
Being a fan of ska I got half black and half white boxes but the overall look is just what I was hoping for.
