Making a Wooden Snake Cube Puzzle From Recycled Wood and Leather
Hello friends online, you probably don't know but i absolutely LOVE puzzles and I recently had fixed one of my old ones that had broken which got me thinking about making one from scratch.
Materials
You will need some wood about 4X4X4 should do
Leather string
A Saw and Drill
3//16 drill bit
Some sort of adhesive (super glue/hot glue+gun)
Cleaning the Wood
The first thing that needs to be done is make the wood usable. This wood had dirt and mud on it, was dented and wet but after cutting off a few millimeters it looked absolutely beautiful.
Measurements
Each cube is 1X1X1 inches 27 cubes in total the string therefor should be around 28 inches long (its always better to have more than less) For certain cubes you will drill all the way through. Others you will need to drill twice, perpendicular, halfway through or at a 45 degree angle (i chose the perpendicular because i felt more secure with the drilling)
Threading
Once you have all the holes drilled (look at the pattern from the original puzzle and follow it EXACTLY) As for the threading the 90 degree cut makes it difficult the thread put with a needle or thin pliers or wiggling it some will get in on through (if you make the 45 degree angle cut threading is sooooo much easier). make sure that you thread it correctly otherwise you are making a puzzle that will never be solved.
Attaching the String
For the first and last block i drilled halfway through and flooded the hole with hot glue and put the string in through it and filled it however much more it might have needed to make sure it was secured. I figured using leather was actually a very unique idea and it will definitely last longer the the string from the original puzzle.
Try and Solve It
Here is how absolutely gorgeous it looks at the end and how it looks relative to the original. Try with different woods, paint it, try adjusting the puzzle and above all, Have Fun! oh and please vote for me on the wood, puzzle, and leather contests if you like this
