Before we thought that making a wooden pen with wood would be hard so we practiced a lot with the tools and the lathe. We eventually learned how to make a wooden pen and now we think making a pen is not so hard and we think it is easy.

Supplies

Rectangle wood, 1 Drill bit, ink refill, transmission, tip, clip, little cap, spacer

Drilling a Hole

Make a hole in the board (practicing)

1. Wear your goggles.

2. Draw a dot on a board for a place to drill.

3. Measure the drill bit using the caliper ruler.

4. Find the right size drill bit.

5. Put the drill bit in the chuck and adjust the chuck key to tighten.

6. Put the board on the drill press table.

7. Align drill bit with the hole on the table.

8. Adjust the table height.

9. Clamp the board down to the table.

10. Check that no one is around you.

11. Turn on the switch.

12. Lower drill bit using gear handle.

13. Drill the hole in the wood.

14. Check to see if the hole went all the way.

15. If the hole isn’t all the way through adjust the table up and do again.

Drilling a Hole II

1. Get a wooden cube.

2. Put the wooden cube in the clamp to hold it steady.

3. Draw an X and find the middle where the lines crisscross.

4. Put it in the drill press.

5. Check no one is around you so no one will get hurt.

6. Put the clamp on the wood cube.

7. Open the machine.

8. Drill the first time.

9. If the hole is not all the way through, adjust the drill bit or the table, then drill the second time.

10. Rip the large wooden bits out of the cube and sand the wood and all is done!

1. Put the wood on the feed rod and put the bushing next to the wood.

2. Put the tool rest in the front of the wood.

3. Press the start button.

4. Use the chisel to make the design that you want.

5. Place the chisel on the tool rest at an angle.

6. Turn on the lathe.

7. Move the chisel slowly towards the wood and start making a planning cut.

8. Keep making planning cut gently.

9. If you want to do more then do it.

10. Put the sandpaper on top of the wood.

11. When you think that you are finished sanding you can use Friction Polish oil on it.
