In this instructable i'll show you how I made the awesome wooden chest from the mobile game Clash Royale by Supercell.

The wooden chest from the game looks very much like a cartoon style treasure chest and makes a great weekend project, gift box or piggy bank.

In the Clash Royale game, you need chests to unlock new cards and characters, the wooden chest is free and can be opened every 3 hours, read more...

Materials Needed

  • 18 mm MDF (Medium-density fibreboard)
  • 6 mm MDF
  • 4 cm Hinges + 8 screws
  • PVA glue
  • Acrylic paint brown, grey and black
  • Brown marker pen

Start by watching the YouTube video.

Making the Lid

Using 18 mm MDF I measured and cut out 5x 20 x 5 cm. I marked and sanded each side at an angle, I just eyeballed the angle until I got it right (it's how I like to work)

Following the shape of the lid curve I marked out the two sides and cut.

I lined all five planks side by side and taped using masking tape. I then flipped the whole thing over and added the glue. I made the curve and taped together, see image. I then added the two sides and clamped.

Next I started work on the metal bars and rivets. Using 6mm MDF 10x 4 x 5 cm strips and 10x 2.5 cm circles. I shaped, sanded and glued to lid, see image or video for better understanding.

Making the Base

The base is a bit more simpler. I marked out a front, back, two sides and bottom.

I cut out using a bandsaw, glued and clamped

I also cut out some material for the hinges, again see image or watch the video tutorial.

I also made the two parts of the lock and glued them on, again I just eyeballed this.

Painting

For the paint job a gave it two coats of white MDF primer and two coats of colored acrylic paint. I also did a dry-brush technique on the metal looking parts using metallic silver.

Using a brown marker pen I drew in some wood grain.

To finish I attached the hinges.
