For this project you will need at least 3 things.

  • control board
  • LCD
  • screw driver

I will also be 3D printing a case/stand for it, but until that's done you will need to make your own case/stand.

Getting the Lcd and Control Board

The LCD is rather easy, take an old laptop that doesn't turn on and take it apart until you get something like the picture. After that, find the hidden screws and take those out, keep unscrewing screws until you have a raw LCD. Now look on the back of the LCD and find the model number and search for control board compatible with your model online and order it, mine cost $24.

Connecting the Control Board

Once you control board has finally arrived, look on the back of the LCD there should be a cable like in the second picture, disconnect it and plug in the control board, this will take a little force but don't use to much or you risk damaging the port or cable or both, be sure to also plug in the second cable from the LCD to the inverter (the circuit board with a plastic cover), be careful because both of these cables only plug in on way.

TEST

now plug it all in and see if it works

if it doesn't here is a trouble shooting list:

  • you didn't secure the cable
  • you didn't turn it on
  • you didn't turn on the computer
  • you damaged a cable or port
  • you got a bad LCD or broke it
  • you got the wrong control board
  • you broke the control board

Before you write a bad review to the seller of the control board, check that you did everything else right because its almost always your fault.

If this works than congratulations you have built your own monitor to play games on or surf the web with, good job.
