Making a Folding Table in Fusion

In this instructable I'll showcase how you can design a simple wall mounted folding table using standard building materials.

Supplies

Fusion 360

Making a Reference Wall

First let's make a reference wall so we'll have some context when we're designing the table.

To do this I used 8ft 2x4 studs and added half inch drywall on top.

Wall Mount

Next let's add a wall mount for the table. This will determine the height of the table, in my case I placed it a couple feet up. This is simply a piece of half-inch plywood we'll be screwing the hardware on to.

Table Top

Now we'll make the table top with a sheet of half-inch plywood.

Hinges

Now lets make it flex! to find hinges I went to the insert menu, and selected insert McMaster-Carr component. then searched through until I found a hinge I liked.

Once I placed the Carr STEP file I added another one on the other side of the table top.

Reinforcement

Then I added a couple 2x4's to reinforce the table top.

Legs

Then with another pair of hinges and 2x4's I added legs! I set the length to correspond with the height of the table from step 2.

That's it for the table!

Secure It

Before we leave let's add a 3d printable snap fit for the table so it doesn't swing down when not in use.

Here you can see the table in both it's folded and unfolded positions, as well as some example benches for when it's in use!
