Making a Crazy Pumpkin and Witch House!!
In this instructable, I show you how I made a pumpkin of a particular form. I used my imagination to invent this design, in which I added to the pumpkin eyes, a mouth, two arms, a tongue and a witches house inside the mouth!
I thought about this scenario : "A crazy pumpkin swallowed a witches house!!" :)
This creation was made using mainly a Paper Clay. It’s fun to make and you can use it as an awesome decoration.
Supplies
Making the Basic Shape
We start by blowing a balloon until a diameter of 30 cm. Use a plastic bowl as a base for the ball. To stick them, I use a paper tape.
Cover With Paper Clay
To cover the balloon with the paper clay, I start by taking a small clay mass, then roll it out using a rolling pin.
Watch how I prepare and roll out my clay
Then, I make each part of the face apart, the eyes than the mouth. I end up covering the rest of the balloon with the paper clay. I used "DAS modelling material" but you can any paper clay or even homemade paper clay. I don't use natural air-dry clay, it will shrink and that will result in a lot of cracks around your balloon. So paper clay is the best to use in this type of craft.
I shape eyes and mouth using Clay Sculpting Tools.
Shaping the Base
To make the base, we follow the following steps:
- Draw a circle of the same diameter as the 14cm bowl on a cardboard,
- Cut the circle with cutter,
- Repeat the previous steps to make 2 other similar circles,
- Glue the circles with hot glue.
Making the Tongue and Pumpkin Leaf
To make the tongue, follow these steps:
- Draw on a cardboard a tongue of length 45cm and width 10cm,
- Cut the drawn shape using a cutter,
- Cover the tongue with aluminum foil.
- Use hot glue to glue the aluminum foil with the cardboard
To make the pumpkin leaf, follow these steps:
- Draw on a cardboard a pumpkin leaf,
- Cut the drawn shape using a cutter,
- Cover the leaf with aluminum foil.
- Use hot glue to glue the aluminum foil with the cardboard.
- Glue the leaf over the pumpkin.
Cover the Tongue and the Leaf With Paper Clay
After, I cover all the tongue and the leaf with paper clay. I used "DAS modelling material" but you can any paper clay or even a homemade paper clay. I don't use natural air dry clay, it will shrink and that will result in a lot of cracks. So paper clay is the best to use in this type of craft.
I used a Rolling pin and Clay Sculpting Tools to do this step.
Making Hands and Arms
I start with the creation of the fingers. Each finger is composed of three phalanges covered with aluminum foil and
a metal wire core (diameter 1mm) to tie the phalanges together. Leave a 3mm separation between the aluminium phalanges to create the appearance of the joints. Follow the attached photos to better follow the steps.
With the same method and using metal wire and aluminum foil, I make the hand and the arm.
Repeat the same steps to make the second hand and arm
Cover Hands With Paper Clay
I started by covering the fingers, one by one, with paper clay. I use a carving tool to make the shape of hand joints. Then I ended up covering all the rest of the hand.
Set Up the Arms
In the beginning, I used hot glue to stick each arm in its location. Always using paper clay, I cover the joints of the arms to ensure better fixation.
Shaping the Witch House
For the construction of the witches house, I followed these steps:
- Cut a plastic bottle of coca (0.5 Liter) at the top third using a cutter,
- Use aluminum foil to shape the base of the house,
- Glue the two parts together as described in the attached pictures,
- Build the roof and its window with aluminum foil.
Hot glue is used in all the gluing operations of this step.
Cover With Paper Clay and Making Door and Windows
To cover the house with the paper clay, I start by taking a small clay mass, then I roll it out using a rolling pin.
Watch how I prepare and roll out my clay
I start by covering the front of the house. Before the clay dries, I carve the door and windows using the carving tools. See the attached photos to know the shapes of the windows chosen. You can choose other shapes of door and windows. With the same method I made the other sides of the house.
To make roof tiles, I cut small rectangles of clay (10x17mm) and put them on the roof, one by one. Do not forget to wet the surface with water before putting the tiles.
Painting the Witch House
I used black acrylic paint for painting. You can use watercolors and watercolor crayons. It's up to you. In the end you can seal the paint using some matte spray varnish.
Painting the Pumpkin
For painting the pumpkin, I used acrylic paint for painting. You can use watercolors and watercolor crayons. It's up to you. In the end you can seal the paint using some matte spray varnish.
Making Miniature Leaves and Pumpkins
I wanted to add leaves and small pumpkins to the base. I make them with paper clay using carving tools. I used acrylic paint to colour them. After, I used hot glue to attach them to the plant that surrounds the base of the big pumpkin.
Set Up the Witch House
Finally, I end by sticking the house witches inside the pumpkin using hot glue. You can choose not to stick it, it's up to you...
It's Done !
Finally, I ended up with a Crazy Pumpkin and wonderful witch house as shown in the attached photos :)
