I've been thinking about making a door for my house for a while. Only the sill and frame were attached. There was not enough space to make a regular door. So I decided to make a sliding door.

I made a design using metal ornaments that I had bought before. Since it is a special design, the dimensions are also specific to the house.

The dimensions of the door are 95cmx210cm

I originally designed a double-sided door, but I only used the front as there was not enough space at the back.

It was one of the projects that I enjoyed doing and that was useful for my home.

Supplies

After designing and planning the barn door, I started to supply the necessary materials.

-Pine timbers (4cmx30cmx300cm - 4 pieces)

-Forged irons in various ornaments

-Sliding door mechanism (retail hardware)

-Trim router

-Hand router

-Orbit sander

-Hand planer

-Thickness planer

-Circular saw (mounted on the table)

-Drill press

-Wood glue

-Spray paint (black)

-Wood screws etc.

Cutting, Planing

I ripped all of my timber pines 30cm wide to fit into the thickness planer. First I flattening some twisted corners with handplane then I planing them all to the same thickness, which is 3.5cm.

I make some dominoes from scrap woods for edge joining on my homemade router table. I'm making pockets with trim router and using 1/2" straight bit.

I marked the timbers to be in the correct order. I glued it all together with wood glue and fixed it with homemade bar clamps which I made inspired by Pask Makes-Easier Homemade Bar Clamps.

A few days later, I strengthened the dominoes by adding dowels.

First Coat of Wood Finish

After sanding a little, we apply the first coat of varnish for protection. I don't want the door to bend as the workshop can be hot.

According to my design, I began to mark the places to mount the forged metal parts and all done.

I made the engraving template for all forged irons. And I started carving according to templates.

After all the carving was done, I sanded it again.

Then preparing door ladges, cutting, marking, carving etc.

I made one final action to complete the door.

I used the door ladges as inlays. I'm carving the places and gluing them.

And ready to mount sliding hardwares.

I marked the locations of the holes and drilled them. Cutting and inserting the stainless steel pipes into the holes to make it more solid.

Finally, I wood finishing the entire door.

I prepared a wooden beam for support under the metal rails. I marked the hole locations on the wall and attached the rail with bolts.

I checked the door by hanging it on the rails.

I have completed the door by gluing all the forged metals with CA glue.

Hope you enjoy it!
