Making 3D Objects From Foam Board

In this instructable i am going to show you a method for making 3D objects from foam.

it is the same concept used in 3D printer slicer software to turn 3D designs in to a usable format that 3D printers can understand.

Materials and Tools

Materials needed for this project:

Foam board (I found that 1/4 inch is a good size)

Hot glue sticks

Tools needed for this project:

Paper and pencil (to design you object)

Knife

Hot glue gun

Sandpaper

Design Your Object

I made a simple flat top pyramid. but you could make other shapes.

Using the pyramid as an example. Lets say your foam is .25 inches thick and your object is one inch thick that means that your object will be four layers thick.

To begin draw steps over your old drawing as in the photograph above.

Measure the distance between each step.

Than draw out the distances between each step to size the layers as in the photograph above.

Cut Out the Layers

Cut the layers out to the size determined in step two.

Gluing the Layers

Then glue the layers together remember to center each layer on the lower layer.

Sanding!

Carefully sand down the steps to resemble the desired shape.

And that's about it!
