Makedo Cardboard Storage Unit

Mum and Dad are always reminding us that it's important to keep everything neat and tidy. Over in Japan, Tanaka Satoshi has come up with a clever way to make a modular storage unit out of everyday cardboard boxes. What a great idea! Now we have somewhere to store clothes, books, toys and more... and these storage units look so much more interesting than regular tubs and shelves.

With just a few cuts and some simple folds, the rectangular box takes on a whole new form that is very sturdy and makes for a handy storage space. Continue reading to discover how you too can take control of clutter in your own home using only cardboard boxes and Makedo parts from mymakedo.com.

Create New Folds

Gather your materials. Each storage unit will use one medium sized cardboard box and approx. 12 Makedo Re-clips. Begin by flattening out the boxes along their existing folds.

Next we want to turn the rectangular box into a hexagon shape. We’ve done this by making a new fold in the box on each of the two larger faces. Use the point-end of the Makedo Safe-saw to score a new fold line half way through the wider faces of the flattened box.
You can now stand the box up and bend it into a hexagonal shape.

Cut New Flaps

Cut along each of the new fold lines, to match the length of the existing flaps on the box. Turn over and repeat on the other end of the box as well.
Now you should have a six-sided box with flaps top and bottom.

Fold and Connect Flaps

Fold the flaps inwards as shown.
At one end, connect the overlapping flaps using Makedo Re-clips.
Join multiple units together.

Join Together to Complete

Assemble the units together and fold over the flaps at the open end of each unit to make the cardboard neat and sturdy.
Connect using Makedo Re-clips.

Your Modular Cardboard Storage Unit is complete. Repeat the process to add more compartments to suit your space and storage requirements.
