Hey guys, Welcome back! I am Shahbaz from DIY Burner and today in this Instructables article I will be doing Unboxing + Test + Discussion about all New MakeBlock Xlight S1.

Before beginning let me tell you that, this Xlight come with 3 different models and here I am having the Xlight S1, the other models of xlight is N1 and U1. Every model of xlight contains different unique products.

What is MakeBlock Xlight?

~ xLight is a series of programmable light, covering night lights, decorative light strips, and copper wire string lights for multiple scenarios. You can customize the color, brightness, and the presentation to achieve numerous light effects.

Without wasting much time let me first tell you about the content of this article:

The Box has a cool design and all the key features of Xlight is highlighted in the box.

Now let's talk about What's inside the Box:

• Xlight Control Box ×1

• Cable Adapter ×1

• RGB LED Strip 3m (90 LEDs) ×1

• USB Cable (Type-C) ×1

• User Manual ×1

So, that's all was inside the Box.

What is Control Box?

~ The Control Box refers to the controller of the light, which is the carrier to give the product programming attributes and achieve all interactive functions.

Key features:

• Programmable:

~ Control Box is a single-board computer packed with advanced electronics which make it powerful to control and create any color light effects.With the mBlock software（mobile/PC）of engaging programming games and tutorials, everyone can learn code step by step, everyone can create whatever they like.

• Music Sync:

~ Based on the volume sensor inside the control box, xLight's light effect can change in accordance with the music or volume level, such as dancing with the music, being bright or dim with different volume level, or when the volume reaches certain decibel and the light effect alters etc.

• Gesture Control:

~ With the infrared transceiver sensors inside, the Control Box supports gesture control. For example, wave to the left to change the light effect, wave to the right to switch the light on and off, etc. You can simple use the preset program, or program by yourself to create.

• Fully customizable RGB LED bead:

~ Unlike ordinary dull solid color RGB lighting, individually addressable RGB LEDs have a tiny microcontroller on each LED bead, allowing each LED bead to light up with unique color and brightness, this gives you great space to liberate your creativity in the art of lighting.

1. Firstly we need to take the RGB LED and the Cable adapter and then connect the RGB LED strip to the Cable Adapter.
2. Then we need to connect the Cable Adapter to the Xlight Control Box (as shown in the above image).
3. Then we need to connect the USB type-C cable with Control Box and power it by connecting it to a PC, Household Charge, or Power Bank.

That's all from the Assembling.

After building you can control it using the following:

• Using the Default Programs,
• Using the mobile/app,
• Using IR Remote,
• By Coding it using mBlock 5 app.

• Default Programs:

The Default Programs refer to the Infrared- Based Gesture Control:

With the left IR Sensor, you can use your gestures to switch between light effect, that include:

• 🌈 Rainbow Mode
• Marquee
• Gradient
• Meteor
• Firefly
• Tidal
• Random color change effects.

With the right IR Sensor, you can use your gestures to enable the 🎶 music mode. Then play a music and the strip will react to it. Sounds Amazing Right?

• Mobile Control / App Control:

To control it using App you need to download MakeBlock app and to code it using mobile you need to download the mBlock app from play store or Apple app Store.

With the Bluetooth module inside the Control Box, you can also control it with the Makeblock APP . Through the Makeblock APP, you can adjust and regulate the light color, brightness, light effect, and even switch the control mode like gesture control.

• IR Remote control:

With the infrared transceiver sensors inside the Control Box, you can control it remotely with the remote control(included). Through the preset program, press the alphabet buttons to switch between different light effects; press the directional buttons to adjust the light intensity and music vibration light effect; press the number buttons to switch the light on and off as well as switch to a different light color. You can also program to give each button a different function.

That's all about the testing part. You can also Program the Xlight using mBlock 5 app. So go to the next step to learn about it.

Follow The Steps:

• Download the mBlock app and install it.

• Use the USB type-C cable to connect the Xlight S1 to your pc or mobile. Ensure that Xlight S1 is connected sucessfully.

• Open mBlock 5 app, delete the default device and add the Xlight device from the device library.

• Click Connect and then click connect in the dialog box appears.

• After Connecting Xlight S1 you code the Xlight using Block Coding (i.e. drag and drop) or Python.

Now you know how to connect Xlight S1 to mBlock 5. So now you code it according to your need and enjoy using Xlight.
