Make an Electric Spinning Die!

In this Instructable you will learn how to use everyday, cheap items to make a battery powered spinning die.

What you need:
-An aluminum pie plate
-A small Motor
-Some cardboard (not necessary)
-A soldering iron
-A hot glue gun
-A small piece of aluminum (or anything) for the pointer
-A push button switch
-Some wires
-At least 1 AA battery (or whatever will power your motor)

You will want to make a small hole in the center of the pie plate for the motor shaft to stick through. Also, make 2 small holes on the side for the wires that go to the push button. At this time you can also number it, going from 1-6 or 1-99. The numbers in my picture are hard to see.

Now you will want to attach the wires to the button. Make sure that you have the wire positions in the right place and the die won't be spinning when it is in the rest position. Once you have it figured out, solder the wires on. The hot glue the button to the side of the pan, but put the wires through the holes that you made first.

Now you are going to glue the motor into the hole. Put plenty of glue on so it won't pop off. Make sure you don't glue the shaft, or else it would defeat the purpose of building this. First, take one of the wires coming from the button and solder it to one end on the motor. Leave the other wire free for now. Next, take a section of wire and strip the ends. This will attach to the battery. Solder one end of the wire onto the other end of the motor.

.Now it is time to attatch the power source. Take the wire that is coming from the motor and solder it to either pole on the battery. Then take the wire coming from the button, the one that is free, and attach it to the other pole on the battery. You can glue the battery to the pie plate if you want, so it doesn't flop around and tear your solders. Before you attach the back, press the button to see if it all works. If it does, cut a circular peice of cardboard (or whatever you want), and glue it to the bottom. Your almost finished.

Now, all you have to do is cut out the pointer. I made mine out of aluminim. You can make yours in any shape, size, and material you want, as long as it is not too heavy. You have to ounch out a small hole for the motor shaft to fit through. I used a screw driver. Then all you have to do is glue it on.

Push the button and play a game.
