I am back! It has been a while since I posted on this site but I am back with a fun project. In this ible I will show you how I make OTG cables. You may have noticed that I posted on this topic before but I came up with a better way of making them and had to share!

Ready?

For those who do not know what an OTG cable is this is the chance to learn and make one. An OTG cable allows for the use of USB devices with compatible phones and tablets. It is one pin away from that of a normal Micro USB cable.

Make professional OTG cables from scratch!

I made a video in efforts to cover as much as I could. Pictures follow but be sure to check out the video and subscribe to my YouTube for more videos!

Modding the Pins

This is covered in depth in the video. You simply free your micro usb end from the rubber casing of the charge cable and then remove the metal housing by lifting two tabs. Once the tabs are lifted you can slide the housing away exposing the pins. After they are exposed you need to solder the pin next to the ground pin to the ground pin. The pinout is in the video. That small solder bridge now enables a host for smartphones. Thats all an OTG cable is.

Finishing Up.

I soldered the micro usb end to a female usb port. I did it this way to avoid using wire this time. I then used a plastic usb cap to house the host cable. Check out the video for more details!
