What you will need:
Tin snips (or large scissors)
The top of the can
Gloves (optional)

Use the tin snips/scissors to cut through the edge of the lid opposite the hole, and follow the line that’s already there, cutting towards the hole. Repeat on the other side. (See pics)

IMPORTANT:
The edges will be very sharp, and small splinters of metal can be very dangerous - take extra care not to cut yourself!!
Please wear gloves to be safe if you need to!

Shaping the Wings

What you will need:
Tin snips / scissors
Can top
Metal File (optional)
Gloves (optional)

Round off the corners by trimming with the tin snips/scissors, then if needed, use the metal file to smooth any sharp edges.

IMPORTANT: Again take extra care of sharp edges, small splinters and filings, and wear gloves if needed.

Making the Hole in the Wings for the Rivet

What you will need:
Dot punch or a large nail
Hammer
The wings
Wooden work bench or scrap wood block

Mark a dot on the rim of the can top in the middle of the gap. Hammer the punch or nail until it forms a hole large enough for the rivet (approx 3mm diameter) . You will punch a hole into the wood below, so make sure you use a piece of scrap wood below your work, if you don’t have a suitable work bench to work on.

DO NOT RIVET THE WINGS ON YET.
First follow the instructions for the other bug, to rivet on the eyes, antennae, legs, mouth and tail.
The wings will be riveted on last.

Final Stage - Riveting on the Wings

What you will need:
The short rivet
Rivet gun
Can top wings

After following the other instructions (ignoring the can bottom wing preparation), you should now have riveted on the eyes, antennae, legs, proboscis and tail, and are now ready to rivet on the wings.

Use the single short rivet, to simply rivet the wings into the single hole on the top.
Hold the wings securely and firmly as you rivet, it should snap more easily, being a short rivet.

That’s it, you're done! (Apart from adding rubber/plastic feet if you’ve opted for that. If so follow the instructions for the other bug)
