Make a Balance Scale and a Graduated Cylinder

If you are not able to purchase Scientific Tools then you can make it at home!

Supplies

Graduated Cylinder: 1 liter Coke Bottle, Construction paper, Permanent Marker, Scissors, Duck Clear Tape, Measuring cup.

Balance: Hanger, String, scissors, 2 identical small containers.

Step 1: Design Your Tools

The first step on constructing your Scientific Tools is to make a draft or sketch of your design.

Step 2: Gather Your Forces!

Gather all your supplies on a table with the help of an adult! It should be in a well lit area. It should be on a table that can get dirty. Make sure you clean up after yourself!

Step 3: Make the Graduated Cylinder!

Cut the top of a 1 litter Coke Bottle at the top where it begins to get small. Take out the Coca Cola label out. Use a measuring cup to measure out millilitres. Using a measuring cup put 100mL on the cylinder before taping the paper to the cylinder to make sure that the water line matches the paper line.

Step 4: Make the Balance

Make 2 hole at exactly across from each on side of the containers. Cut 2 identical pieces of string - about 24 inches long. Tie each of the string to the hole. Make sure that once tied the string is the same length once put on the hanger. Repeat this for the other container.

Step 5: Test Your Tools
