Make Your Own Soil Moisture Sensor With Arduino!!!
ABOUT!!!
In this instructable, we are going to interface a Soil moisture sensor FC-28 with Arduino. This sensor measures the volumetric content of water inside the soil and gives us the moisture level as output. The sensor is equipped with both analog and digital output, so it can be used in both analog and digital mode. In this article, we are going to interface the sensor in both modes. So let’s begin our tutorial on interfacing Arduino and Soil moisture sensor.
Working of Sensor:
The soil moisture sensor consists of two probes which are used to measure the volumetric content of water. The two probes allow the current to pass through the soil and then it gets the resistance value to measure the moisture value. When there is more water, the soil will conduct more electricity which means that there will be less resistance. Therefore, the moisture level will be higher. Dry soil conducts electricity poorly, so when there will be less water, then the soil will conduct less electricity which means that there will be more resistance. Therefore, the moisture level will be lower. This sensor can be connected in two modes; Analog mode and digital mode. First, we will connect it in Analog mode and then we will use it in Digital mode. Specifications
The specifications of the soil moisture sensorFC-28 are as follows
Input Voltage3.3
– 5VOutput Voltage0
– 4.2VInput Current35mAOutput SignalBoth Analog and Digital Pin Out .
Supplies
*TOOLS!!
GLUE GUN
SOLDRING IRON
MATERIALS REQUIRED!
*Arduino uno.
*soil moisture sensor.
*16*2 lcd display.
*10k potentiometer.
*male to female jumper wires.
*9V BATTERY
*SWITCH
HOW IT WORKS ???
The project tells you about interfacing soil moisture sensor and LCD to give display. I forget everyday to water my plant and my grandmother used to recall me to water. So now I think I should build a project to show moisture so I remember that I have built project lets check out the moisture.
u can see this detailed tutorial for more information !!! pls subscribe also :) !!!
CIRCUIT DIAGRAM!!
this is the circuit diagram for the connections u can see the circuit diagram foe the connections.
CONNECTIONS FOR ARDUINO!!
connect the jumper wires to arduino digital pins 2,3,4,5,6 and 7.
CONNECTIONS FOR LCD DISPLAY.
Now connect the wire coming out from the arduino to lcd display pin 4,5,6,11,12,13,14,15.
SEE THE CIRCUIT DIAGRM FOR MORE DETALES...
CONNECTIONS FOR POTENTIOMETER.
Connect lcd pin 1,2,3,5,and 16 to the potentiometer 3 output pins
i.e lcd pin 2 and 15 to positive pin of potentiometer.
lcd pin 3 to the mid pin of potentiometer.
lcd pin 1,5 and 16 pin to negative pin of the potentiometer.
SEE THE CIRCUIT DIAGRM FOR MORE DETALES...
CONNECTIONS FOR SOIL MOISTURE SENSOR MODULE.
Connect positve and negative (gnd) pin to the battery and analog pin to the A0 (analog)pin in the arduino.

NOW ADD SWITCH AND 9V BATTERY!!
Connect the switch and 9v battery to arduino for power supply!!!
FINISHED AND WORKING PROJECT!!!!
IF THERE IS NO MOISTURE IN THE SOIL THE PERCENTAGE WILL BE.
IF THERE IS MOISTURE (BY ADDING WATER) IN THE SOIL THE PERCENTAGE WILL BE.!
THANKS FOR WATCHING!!!!!
