Make Your Own Mr & Mrs Sweetheart Table Sign
In this Instructable I will show You how I made my own Sweetheart table Signage.
Make a Template
Many of you may be comfortable free handing your own letters, and if so, you may decide to skip this step. However, for the sake of consistency I would recommend at least free handing the "M" and the "r" on card board. This will ensure the "Mr" and the "Mrs" will be sized and proportioned equally.
If you are completely uncomfortable free handing, you can l print the letters and adhere them to a block of wood with spray adhesive.
Rough Cuts
Once you have stenciled the Lettering onto blocks of wood using your template, you may then clamp the blocks to a solid surface allowing ample overhang for cutting. Proceed to cut along your lines with a jig saw (scroll saw or band saw would be even better suited for this task).
Inside the "&"
The "& symbol will require some special attention due to the inside cuts. First use a drill to make a starting hole for the jig saw blade. then lower the jig saw into place and proceed to cut the holes.
Shaping
A chisel and a Drememl will help shape some of the roughest parts, particularly in the tightest crevices.
Sanding
Using an orbital sander will speed up this step, but there will be no avoiding hand sanding to get the tightest creases.
Painting and Finishing
I chose to paint the Letters white and then I lightly sanded them to allow some of the wood grain to show through, giving a more shabby chic look. I also sprayed them with three coats of clear Polyurethane finish.
