Make Your Own Microphone Pop Filter

A pop filter serves to reduce or completely eliminate 'popping' sounds caused by fast moving air hitting the microphone and can drastically improve the audio quality of your recordings if you want to do speech-based recording such as voice overs or commentaries. A pop filter will also keep moisture and saliva off your microphone which can cause mold growth or corrosion.

To create this pop filter you will need:

• A clothes hanger
• A pantyhose or a stretchy sock with fine fabric

Depending in how strong the material of your clothes hanger is you may need to use a pair of pliers to bend it in a round shape. It does not have to be a perfect circle so don't sweat it if it doesn't look perfect. We are just trying to create a big surface to create a good 'shield' for your microphone

Now pull your pantyhose or sock over the round shaped clothes hanger you created in the previous step. This may be a little difficult depending on how stretchy your pantyhose or sock is.

If you pantyhose or sock is a bit too strong for your clothes hanger it will look more like an oval. If that happens just readjust the clothes hanger to form a round shape.

Your pop filter is now done! That was easy, wasn't it? You can now record more professional audio recordings for your voice overs, commentaries or podcasts and you have saved yourself 15 bucks.
