Make Your Foto Real Size or Even Bigger! :)

Hi there! :)

This funny quick project is dedicated to everyone who´s partner, beloved friend, animal -you name it- is currently abroad, in quarantene, or away, or for those who just want a big size of a funny picture in their home. :D

You could also print a big poster sized picture to make some street art, bring it on a party, ... there are endless possibilities!

Having a long distance relationship and being in quarantene for two weeks, I was unable to attend the birthday of my girlfriend. To cheer her up, I sent her a big, 1 to 1 size of a (funny) picture of myself along with a little present for her. :)

In this Instructable, I´ll guide you step by step to enable yourself to print whatever you want in whatever scale you want! :D

Supplies

For this project you need:

- A picture. The bigger (the more pixels it has), the better for scaling;

- Colored printer (or a copy shop);

- Cutter knife and scissors;

- Glue stick;

- A cutting mat would be advisable but not indispensable;

- Empty floor to lay down the parts.

Preparing the Picture

After you have choosen a nice picture, there is some pre work to be done, before scaling it up.

This is not a must, but I would recommend you to crop the image using paint or gimp (or a similar program) in order to print just the objet you want. This will result in a cleaner poster.

Now that you have your picture prepared, it´s time to scale it up!

The world wide web is full of web sites that offer such services, without the need to download a dedicated program.

In this instructables, I´ll guide you in the steps of the web site I used: https://rasterbator.net/

There are 7 mini steps, that are self explanatory:

1. Click on "Create a poster";

2. Drag and drop or upload your (cropped) picture;

3. By changing the amount of sheets in the "Output size" (blue arrow) option, you can scale the picture to the size you want. Rasterbator wil give you a preview of the final dimensions of your image directly below the pictures preview (red arrow);

- Tipp: You can also change the amount of sheets in "Output size" with not integers, like 1.2; 2.6; 3.5; ... In that case, a "." is required since "," are not accepted as decimal breake.

4. Choose your print style. I went for the "High Contrast Mosaic";

5. Choose your background color;

6. Choose the minimal pixel size (minimum is 3mm) and wheter you want crop markers or not. I went for no crop marks as I was afraid to see them once everything was cut.

7. Click "Complete (Number of sheets) page poster!". The download starts automatically.

Print, Cut, Glue

Once the download is complete, print the .pdf file in color or b&w with your printer or (like me) go to a copy shop.

For the rest, its time to cut and glue the puzzle parts togheter! :)

I recommend you to cut and glue as clean and precise as possible, since this step will affect the final result the most.

Note: as you can see, the poster is pixely, you will not notice that from distance. So don´t dispair. But even if you can see the pixels, it has a unique style and is nice to see. :)

Your Poster Is Done! :D

Tadaaaaaaa!!!

You made it! Have fun attaching the poster wherever you want!

Bring joy to your friends and to yourself, with selfmade big posters of funny stuff! :)

A nice variant is to glue the poster on a cardboard or solid background and make it a big stand. :)

Thanks for reading this instructable.

Cheers,
