Make Wall Mounted Box Shelves

In this DIY task, I will make box shelves for the wall. it will achieve an original and practical decoration. Wooden boxes of different sizes that we will place on the wall. When purchasing wood pieces, we must ensure that they are ecological, that is, from sustainable forests.

I this way, we will enjoy 100% natural products and help preserve the environment.

These are the materials needed to make the box shelves:

  • 22 mm thick planked pine board
  • 10 mm tubillions
  • Mounting adhesive
  • Extra-strong adhesive
  • The wooden strip of 10 X 10 mm
  • DM board 5 mm thick
  • Pletinas-hanger
  • Varnish for interior
  • Multipurpose primer
  • Acrylic enamel

we can start the work by cutting all the pieces of wood. we need to build the structure. you can the circular saw and a straight wooden strip as a guide. If you do not have a tool like this, you can make the cuts with the jigsaw (special blade for wood) or with a hand saw.

We also cut the pieces of DM that will be the bottom and the reeds, using the miter saw. Also in this case, if you do not have this tool, you can do the work with the jigsaw or hand saw.

The next thing we will do is drill the joining points with a drill, a wood drill bit of the same diameter as the pipes that we are going to use, the bit stop and the gleaning guide. We also make the recesses for the plates.

We will apply assembly adhesive and insert the pipes with the help of a wooden mallet. We will give back adhesive on the edges and join the first two pieces of pine. If necessary, we will the extra part.

Following the same procedure, we will adjust the four sides. So that the pieces fit perfectly together, we will give a few hits with the hammer interposing a wooden block as a martyr: This way we will avoid damaging the pieces of pine.

We can apply the same adhesive on the wooden slats and fix them in place to reinforce the structure.

Next, we go over the entire wooden surface with the orbital sander equipped with a medium grain sanding sheet, until it is completely smooth.

With a cloth or paper we can remove the dust that could have been produced when sanding. We will clean the work table with the help of a vacuum cleaner.

It's the turn of the finish. After having diluted the varnish in 10% water, we apply it to the structure with a paint spray gun . We will work with greater cleanliness if we cover the table with a plastic or protective paper, or we put a table or cardboard that we are not going to use.

We will paint the DM parts with an acrylic enamel, in this case, orange, and a foam roller. If your pieces do not come with a fixing base, it is advisable that you previously apply a multipurpose primer in order to close the pore and facilitate the adhesion of the finish.

Once both the enamel and the varnish have dried, we present the plates in their position and fix them with their corresponding lag screws. We will perform this task with the drill driver and a suitable tip.

Finally, we will apply an extra-strong adhesive inside the structure and will fit the back part of each box. We will wait for the adhesive to do its job.

We will obtain an exceptional result: some decorated boxes for wall, modern and original, composed of boxes of different sizes and shapes, very easy to make. In addition, we can place them in any room to complete the decoration and give it a very personal touch.
