Make LED Finger Ring at Home

Hi Readers in this instructables i will show you how I made this LED finger ring at home, if you are a creator you might already have all the components required to build this.

You can already see how cool the ring is from the images and in reality it will look more beautiful than in the pictures, It glows very bright in the dark and the setup is very minimal.

You can build and use this in your house party as we have the holiday season ahead of us and we know that the holiday season is full of fun!

To begin with, let me tell you how this works, The ring light has tiny LEDs also called SMD LEDs inside and is powered by a small battery, The battery is held inside the hand and it's barely visible to the others.

I made the design using Tinkercad and printed it on a 3d printer.

Since I have given all the materials, Stl files and circuit for this project anybody can build this with ease, We will head over to the materials necessary for this LED ring

SMD led(color of your choice, I chose blue)

Jumper wires(for copper)

Coin battery or known as CR2032 battery

Empty PCB or any heat-resistant material

Soldering Iron and lead

3D printer and Slicer(Ultimaker Cura)

PLA filament(white)

3D Design for LED Ring

Like I said above I designed the ring with Tinkercad and it is one of the best design software also it has a circuit build tool with a simulation option i have made a simulation of the LED circuit of this project and I have given it below.

Now coming to the design I measured my finger size first and used the same measurement to design, the design was simple but the challenges arose in placing the LED as we have the size barrier here, The finger ring too small is not appealing, and too big is just next to awful! so keeping a good balance in the size is necessary, so I made a groove inside the ring.

The design for the ring has 2 parts, one is the ring and the other is the casing that should be thin to illuminate the lights.

The other part is the battery holder for the CR2032 battery.

I have given the STL files below and all you have to do is export it to the slicer and there is no need to use supports while printing, Use white PLA filament and print this

3D Printing

This is actually the fun part, Seeing the digital model coming into life as a physical model.

The printing time is very short since the model is not so big, It took me less than 40 minutes to get all the parts 3d printed, As no supports or rafts were used there is no need for post-processing also known as cleaning.

I have added the after-print images on this step to make you understand even better!

End of this process you will; have 3 models, one is for the battery and the other is for the ring.

Circuit

The circuit is very simple and all I did was add 5 LEDS and connect everything in parallel. i have added the simulation of circuit that i made with tinkercad circuits on the first image of this step.

I recommend using at least 4 LEDS in this project because if you are using in bulk the battery drains very fast and using too much LED will make the ring glow less brighter, so the magic number is 4 and 5.

Use the strand of copper wire to solder LED, to make the soldering process easier i used the biner clips

I added one end to the PCB first and the other end was also stretched so that we have parallel lines of wires running.

Place the SMD led and solder them here, make sure the solder is only connected between led terminals and wires and not in other areas because later we have to bend the wires.

This will take some time but the results are worth it.

Circuit Testing

I have soldered 5 LEDs to the copper strings and to check if all of them work i suggest you test the circuit for working.

The LED works fine if you have soldered well, Now after the test you can just add this circuit setup inside the groove of the ring.

Trim the excess wires and insulate the open end with hot glue. Extend the wires with the usual jumper wires and the other end of these will be connected to the battery holder.

I used drops of super glue to secure the wires with the holder.

Now the project is almost complete and the only thing left is wearing and testing.

Finishing

The working part is self-explained, All you have to do is wear this ring and insert the battery.

You can hide this inside the palm or just leave it since it won't bother you much as it is very light in weight and the size is small, One advantage of using this battery and holder is, if the battery runs out of charge you can easily insert the new one and continue using this ring.

You can also use different colors LED, also the red color LED gives you a cool look.

This was all about building this project, I highly suggest you make this for the holidays and keep it for yourself or gift your loved ones.

You can check this video out for a complete tutorial, I have shown all the written steps above in visuals so if you have any doubts you can clear it out.

Also, the ring looks absolutely amazing on the fingers and the best time to wear this is at night and anybody can see this wearing in their fingers from very far away.

Say that you are wearing this to a party you will definitely see many asking you about the ring. This was all about building this project, Hope you will try to build this, Thank you, and happy building.
