"Not all classrooms have four walls."

For the Make It Modular: Student Design Challenge, I decided to make an outdoor classroom. This project inspired me due to the fact that our generation needs to be more exposed to nature. Studies have proven the many benefits outdoor learning has brought to students. For example, students mental health improved followed with their academic performance as well. As a students point of view, we should be introduced to new learning environments. My name is Angie Zapata and I am a sophomore at Dalton High School. I will be explaining the construction of my outdoor classroom.

Supplies

Supplies needed:

-Three shipping containers

-12 student desks and chairs

-1 teacher desk and chair

-Trashcan

-4 long tables with 2 chairs with each table

-Projector with screen

-1 fridge

-1 vending machine

-1 oval table with 4 chairs

-1 bookshelf

-1 couch

-1 lamp

-2 stairs

-Railing

-2 picnic tables

Place Shipping Containers

I used three 20' long x 8' wide x 9'6” high volumetric shipping containers. Place the first shipping container in the middle and the other two will be placed on the top of the middle shipping container. Space them to be on the top of each side of the shipping container where they can't tilt over and fall. To keep them balanced, place a black cylinder made of cement for a secure structure.

Bottom Shipping Container

For the bottom shipping container, there will be desks and chairs placed in front of the bottom container (14 of each). Next, there will be three marker boards placed in the interior of the container as shown above. A teacher always needs her desk, therefore place a teacher's desk and chair in the corner with a trashcan beside it. The container will be able to fit every desk and chair for any reason.

Right Shipping Container

For the right shipping container, it will be the projector room. A screen will be placed on the left side of the container. Then place the projector on the right side of the container on the ceiling. For the students, place 4 long tables with two chairs with each table.

Left Shipping Container

Start off by placing a couch in the middle and a lamp beside it on the left side of the container. Then place a bookshelf against the wall facing the couch. For the right side of the container, place a vending machine and fridge for students and teachers. In the middle of the room, place a red table and 4 chairs with it.

Exterior

For the final touches, it will be the exterior. Place stairs on each end of the module for access to the room. After placing the stairs, for safety, place a walkway with a railing to protect those from falling. On the grass, place one picnic table with benches on each side of the bottom container under the top containers.
