Make Card Candle Holders
This tutorial will help you create a decorative, flowery candle holder made from card.
You could make this out of paper but it will not be as sturdy.
Please do not use this with real candles, only use LED candles.
If you don't have LED candles you could use them as a decorative holder for very small items instead.

Draw Out the Template
*** Move on to step 2 if you have downloaded and printed out the template. ***
*** You can print the template directly onto coloured card. ***
You will want to draw an octagon.
You can view this video to see how to draw it or view instructions below:
- Start by drawing a square that is 5cm wide.
- You then find the centre point of the square by drawing a diagonal line from each corner so that you form an X.
- Using a compass, put the point on one of the square's corner and the pencil on the centre of the square.
- Use this as the measurement to create the corners for your octagon.
- Keep the point of the compass on a corner of the square, then draw a mark on the left and right side of the square.
- Repeat on all 4 corners of the square.
- Next, join up the marks with a ruler and you will have formed an octagon shape!
Next, draw rectangles that are the same length as each side of the octagon. They should also be 1.5cm wide. Draw them on each side of the octagon.
Join up all the lines around the outside. This will form a series of small rectangles and triangles around the octagon.
Draw a petal shape that joins above each small rectangle. I made mine around 3.5cm long but you can make them longer or shorter if you wish and whatever shape you like.
You should end up with 8 petals.
The template should now be complete.
Cut Out the Template
Cut a circle around the whole shape.
Cut around the petals and the triangle tabs.
Do not cut out the whole triangle, just cut down one side.
As a guide, you can highlight which lines to cut for the tabs so that you don't accidentally cut the tabs off.
You can use a coloured pencil or draw a darker line.
*** If you are using the template:
Cut around all the solid lines. Do not cut into the dashed lines as these will be the folds. ***
Score and Fold
Score along the remaining lines so that you can fold them easily.
Fold in the tabs and the rectangle sides.
Fold the petals outwards.
Glue Together
Place glue on the small triangle tabs.
Stick the rectangle side to the tabs and hold in place for 30 seconds so it sticks.
Do one section at a time.
Repeat for each section until everything is glued together.
Cut Out the Leaves and Stick
Draw a leaf shape that will fit in between each petal.
Cut it out and trace around it 7 more times so that you have 8 all together.
Score a line in the middle of each leaf.
Cut all the leaves out and fold them in half slightly.
Place some glue at the end of the leaf and stick it in between two petals.
Repeat until all 8 are glued on.
Add Your Light!
Place an LED candle/ LED tealight into the centre of the holder.
You can also experiment with different designs and colours!
Enjoy!
