Make a Semi-Reusable Torch

In this instruble, you will learn how to make a partialy reusable torch. Torches can be used for many things, burning witches, burning effigies, breathing fire, gentle lighting, all sorts of great flame related activities involve torches. The reason I semi-reusable is because depending in the amount of cloth, alcohol, and time used, it can last once or many times.

In order to make the torch you will need

• A Frame: Any long tube/stick will work. I like to use wood or (as pictured below) cardboard so it will burn entirely when thrown onto a bonfire but pvc or a pipe would work fine too.

• A Wick: An actual wick would suit this purpose but i didn't have one so I used a shirt

• Aluminium Foil or Tin Foil: Self explanatory

• Flammable liquid: I used 91% isopropyl alcohol but lighter fluid or anything flammable will work.

Unless you happen to have a wick lying around you'll need to cut up a shirt. This was actually the hardest (and most time consuming) part so I suggest you watch some mind numbing television while you cut.
Start at any place on the bottom and start cutting sideways, keeping an inch and a half of shirt between the scissors and the first cut. The width doesn't really matter but an inch and a half looks nice.
When you get to the top of the shirt I found it was easiest just to cut off all the arm thingies and head hole instead of navigating your way around them. The nice thing is you should have a lot of extra fabric at the end of this project to, oh I don't know, make 100 torches, or 1000 throwable fire bombs, or 10 FLAMING WHIPS OF DOOM; but I'm getting ahead of myself. Onwards, to the next step!

You may be wondering what the foil is for, but in order to make the torch reusable you can't have the stick catching fire and ruining all your good witch hunting fun. Wrap some foil, 5 or 6 inches wide, around the lighting end of the torch a few times and tuck the loose foil at the top into the torch to keep it wrapped.

Start by wrapping the end of the cloth over the top of the torch. Hold your thumb on the fulcrum point and wrap the cloth around your thumb, pull the thumb out and tighten as your begin wrapping your way up. Evenly cover the head of the torch, making sure to get a few layers over the top. When you get to the end of the cloth lift one wrap and then tuck the end of the cloth under it. Tighten the wrapping and if there is extra just tuck it under another wrap.

This part is pretty self explanatory. Pour the liquid over the torch. Do it outside encase you spill and don't drench it or it'll run down the handle and make your hand into a torch (which although cool would be horribly painful and debilitating). If you think you maybe added a bit to much just hold it away from you and give it a quick shake.

Now that you have your torch and are ready to start your own frankenstein style angry mob, remember that I hold no responsibility for anything you do and please don't burn any witches without giving them a fair trail (ie: weighing them against a duck).
