Maintaining a Switch Over Crossing
Hey there folks! I'm back with another model railroading episode! As you see in the title, I will be showing you how to keep a good traffic system with your trains and what to do with the signals (I made lego signals cause I don't have actual signals wired up yet). With the railroads, trains who have a clear (green signal) to cross over will proceed to do so. Trains either coming on the same track as the cross over train or on the track the switching train will be on will stop at the signal closest, near, or far from the cross over. For my procedure, I will have the Erie 824 as a leading engine due to the fact it can slowly stop even when the power is low, and the Santa Fe 5028 as the other train leader. 5028 will be the one to switch over. In quotes, I will be immitating dispatch communicating with 5028 and 824. Hope you enjoy!

Switch the Tracks to the Other Line
The first thing is to switch the tracks to the line you want the train to switch over to. Have both tracks lined up to the opposite line if you want both trains to switch.
Dispatch: "824 you will need to stop and let 5028 cross over"
824: "10-4 dispatch"
Dispatch: "5028 you got the clear to proceed to the switch. Go ahead and cross over"
5028: "Copy."
Clear the Train
The signals for the train to switch should be a yellow. For those who don't know what the yellow means, it means approch. 5028 will cross the crossover with caution. The lego signal shows the yellow. The video shows the process, but the train in the video is not fully crossed over, but you'll get the idea!

Switch the Tracks Back to Straight
Once the train has cleared, switch the tracks back to normal. Stop the train that just crossed, or if you have a different power source that can power 2 trains at once, fire up the second train and cross it over. The first train that crossed has to be going slow so it doesn't run into the other one when it is crossing.

Once both or one of the trains successfully crossed, revert the switches back to normal. Then that's it!
