Magnetic Hook

Make a little magnetic hook to hang stuff on!

For this project, you will need the following:

• Plastic wrap (to keep your working surface clean, and prevent the hook from adhering to it)

• 2 packets of Sugru (or more if a larger hook is desired)

• 3 small neodymium magnets (or larger, for larger hook)

Mix both packets of Sugru together.

Shape the Sugru into the shape of a hook, with a larger, triangular base. Make the triangle pointing down, opposite the tip of the hook. This way, there will be more magnets at the top of the hook when it is stuck on something.

Push the magnets into the bottom of the hook, at each of the corners of the triangular base. Then, smooth the Sugru over each magnet, so it covers them fully. You want the covering thick enough that the magnets won't rip through later, but thin enough that their magnetism won't be blocked. Smooth the bottom so their are no seams or wrinkles, making it as flat and smooth as possible - pressing the hook down on to the plastic wrap-covered table can help with this.

Place with base on table, and let dry for 24 hours.

You can now stick your hook on to any metal surface that attracts magnets, such as iron, nickel, cobalt, and alloys containing these such as steel. Stick it on something, and hang something on it! It is not super-strong, but will hold keys, necklaces, rubber bands, or even a wind-breaker or lightweight scarf.
