Magnemite — Driven With Magnets

A 3D-printing Magnemite designed in Fusion360.

It moves very like in the Pokemon cartoon.

What's interesting is that this Magnemite is driven with magnets.

I publish this Instructable not aim to help you make a same Magnemite, but to share the way how it is driven.

I've saw a very popular video of a LEGO submarin driven by similar way.

Maybe you can apply it in your design.


3D打印的小磁怪,使用Fusion360设计。

它的动作和动画里很像。

最有意思的是,这个小磁怪是由磁铁带动的。

我发表这篇Instructable不是为了帮你制作一个一样的小磁怪,而是分享它的驱动方式。

我在一个非常受欢迎的视频中也看到了用类似的方式,制作的乐高潜水艇。

也许你也可以把它应用到你的设计中。

Supplies

3D printer

A motor: I use a N20 gear motor,it's small but strong. 3v,30rpm.

A Push-Button: 6mm*6mm(5.8mm*5.8mm) locking press button to control on/off of the circuit.

Battery: AAA 1.5v (2)

Screws:M3*40mm (2), M3*20mm (3), M3*10mm (6), M3*5 (4)

Brick-Shape magnet: 10mm*5mm*3mm (38)

A small spring: Outter diameter less than 5mm

按钮开关:6mm*6mm(5.8mm*5.8mm) 自锁开关,用于控制电路开/关

电池:7号1.5v电池 2个

螺丝:M3*40mm (2个), M3*20mm (3个), M3*10mm (6个), M3*5 (4个)

方形磁铁:10mm*5mm*3mm (38个)

一个小弹簧:外径小于5mm就行

The Way It Moves 它的传动方式

Take a look of the Magnet-Shape part of Magnemite in the first picture.

Usually when we want to make it rotate, we use an axle, one end of the axle is connected to the Magnet-Shape part,and the axle goes through a hole of the body of Magnemite, and some mechanical parts inside the body make the axle rotate, hence the of Magnet-Shape part rotates.

But here is not this way, there's no hole and no axle here.

It's magnets. As shown in the second picture.There're small magnets inside the Magnet-Shape part, and theres rotating magnets in the body. So the Magnet-Shape part is attached on the body of Magnemite, and when the magenets in inside the body rotate, they drives the Magnet-Shape part rotating.

I've seen different designs involving this trick.

A really cool LEGO submarine shown in the third picture, the rotating fan is driven by this way. No holes and gaps on the body, water is not able to get inside the submarine body. (Sorry,I don't know who is the designer, all I know is this is from a Youtub video.)


请看看如第一张图片所示磁铁形状零件。

通常我们为了让它转动,需要用一根轴,一端连接到该磁铁形状零件,另一端通过一个孔贯穿到小磁怪身体中,一些身体内部的机构带动轴转动,从而带动磁铁形状零件转动。

这里却不是这种方式,并没有轴和孔。

是磁铁,如第二张图所示。磁铁形状的零件中有很多小磁铁,并且在小磁怪体内也有可以转动的磁铁。因此,磁铁形状的零件可以吸附在小磁怪的身体上,而当身体内部的磁铁转动时,会带着磁铁形状的零件一起转动。

这个技巧我在别的设计中也有见过。

例如第三张图中,一架非常酷的乐高潜水艇,它的螺旋桨就是这样驱动的。艇身没有孔洞和缝隙,不用担心进水。(抱歉,我不清楚这是谁的设计,只知道视频来源于Youtube。)

Assemble the Eye 组装眼睛

The push-button is inside the eye, a spring is to help eyeball part return to its place after push down.

按钮开关装于眼睛内部,弹簧是为了让眼球零件在被按下后返回原位。

Put in Magnets 放入磁铁

Assemble Other Parts 组装其余零件

Other parts are easy to assemble. Assemble them as in the picturs.

The pictures show the relationships of different parts. The assemble sequence is not very the same as in the pictures.

But easy to figure out.


其他部分很容易组装。如图示组装其它部分。

图示的是不同零件间的组装关系。而组装顺序可能和图示不太一样。

不过很容易弄清楚的。
