Magic on a Stick

Greetings!

This tutorial showcases a tasty treat that is simple and easy! You can customize it in many different ways, adding whatever toppings and embellishments you like. It can be as fancy as a kabob or as simple as a Rice Krispy Treat! Please, do enjoy!

• Marshmallows (any size)
• Kabob sticks (pretzels or toothpicks would work as well)
• Rice Krispies cereal (ny cereal will work as long as the pieces are small enough to stick to the marshmallow; I used a combination of chocolate Rice Krispies, vanilla Rice Krispies, and Fruity Pebbles)
• Chopped nuts (optional)
• Sprinkles (optional)
• Butter (optional)
• Holding containers
• Microwave-safe bowl
• Spatula
• Microwave

You will need to use your microwave-safe bowl, marshmallows, spatula, and butter (if desired). There isn't any correct amount of time to microwave your marshmallows for. Pull them out when they look right and adjust heating time as needed. Heat up the marshmallows in the microwave for about 10 seconds to start. Check after 10 seconds to make sure that they are puffing up but are not burned (burnt marshmallows become super chewy and hard as they cool). You may want to stir before putting them back in for another 10 seconds or so. The butter will help the marshmallows to melt easily, mix easily, and provide a creamy taste. However, you may not want to make them too liquidy, as it might make it harder to put the marshmallow on the stick. Once you have deemed the marshmallows done, stir with the spatula until smooth and allow them to solidify slightly.

Before your marshmallow mixture cools off too much, put it on your stick using your fingers (it may be hot!) dipping, twirling, or your spatula. coating the bowl or marshmallow with butter helps to make this so much easier. Then, add your magical toppings! Note: if you want your creation to be like a Rice Krispy Treat, add Rice Krispies to the marshmallows before shaping it on the stick. You can also roll the marshmallow stick in your cereal or toppings. Add sprinkles, nuts, or other toppings if you like.

Allow your treats to cool and set. This will ensure that the marshmallows will stay on the stick and hold firm.
