Mad HALLOWEEN APPLE FACE

Your house is being decorated for Halloween, you are out at the store buying props and decor when you realize food is the last thing on your mind - it is so far down it isn't even on your shopping list!

This is a quick and effective way you can make food a worry free part of this holiday.

All you need is the following:

1. Apples, twice as many apples as you have guests.
2. Sharp paring knife (or another small knife you are comfortable with).
3. A little bit of patience.
4. 1 whole read through this Instructable before you commit to making it.

Now we can move on!

The first part you are going to carve are the eyes, this is the fiddliest part and if you mess up the eyes you have messed up the face, do these first so you don't end up losing your work.

For the eyes you will have to cut vertically through the skin and about 1-2mm of the flesh, cut out the basic shape of the eye like shown in the second photo, cut a small square (or if you are good with the knife you can cut a circle)and then peel the skin out of the way like in photo 3, be careful not to remove the small piece of skin from the pupil or it will not look as good (unless you want a ghost!).

You need to make two eyes per apple, they need to be about 1cm apart.

Now you can move on to the next step.

It is time to make your apple's menace of a grin!

To do this, cut a curved lit about 1.5cm long like shown in photo 1.

Next cut a 7mm slit like shown in photo 2.

Ensure the cuts go beneath the skin, the skin has to be 100% cut or it won't work.

Now you have to connect the lines.

Cut a slit between the two vertical lines at the bottom of them, this is line 1 - it has to be straight.

Then cut a slit between the tops of the lines but make this one curved so it looks like photo 3.

Now, using the same method as the eyes you need to remove skin from the mouth so it looks like photo 4.

All you can do now is move onto the next step!

To finish off the grin you will have to cut a horizontal slice about 1mm wide though the center of the mouth (photo 1 shows the result).

Next you can add the gumline if you want.

Once the cut/s have been made you can go ahead and make the cuts for the teeth, make sure they are NOT even, this guy is a menace.

Make the teeth about the same size as your own.

Now moe onto the last step!

All there is left are the eyebrows and the nose.

These features are optional, if you like the apple the way it is then you don't have to do this.

To make the eyebrows you will need to decide on a shape and carve it out above the eyes, there is not much to say about making them so I will leave it at that.

The nose is totally up to you, you can have a round button nose or a triangular shark style nose - I have nothing to say about it except use the same method as the eye - make the cuts and then peel the skin.

When you have done all that you can display them however you want!

If you are not serving these straight away you should apply some lemon juice to stop the browning.
