Macrame Wall Hanging
Macrame Wall Hanging made with white cotton fibre for the entrance passage.
Supplies
- White macrame cord
- Scissors
- A4 papers (2)
- Plunger
- White glue
- White cotton cord
- Incandescent bulbs (2)
- Thumb tack
- Pen
- A small bowl of water
Cut the Cords
As a first step I cut 14 cords, 9 inches each and one central cord 15 inches long.
Macrame Square Knot
This is one of the most simple macrame knots. Almost a beginners version. Let me explain step by step
- I first folded the middle cord into half as in image 2
- Then, folded and placed one of the 14 short (9 in) cord under the central cord (image 2)
- In the next step I picked another small (9 in) cord and placed it on the right side and above the central cord
- Pulled the open ends of the left cord from under the loop of the right cord and vice-versa
- Tightly pulled all the four open cords as seen in image 4
- In short, the two cords have to be entangled in a way that it fits perfectly as the image 4 shows
- Continued along these lines for 7 pairs of cords (image 1)
Brushing the Cords
In this step, I used this cute dog comb to carefully brush the cords into hair-like finish. This takes time and cotton from the fiber is collected as seen in the comb hair. With utmost care it removed the cotton and then continued until all the cord is not hair life and uniform.
Trimming the Leaf
In this step I first took a one-sided blank paper. Folded into half. Hand drew half portion of a leaf. Then cut the leaf. Repeated the process for 1 more leaf.
Then, I took a long central cord 18 inches in length. Repeated all the steps from 1-4 for 2 more leaves
Making Peepal Leaf
I decided to add Peepal leaf in the center of this wall hanging. Since peepal leaf has a long end, I took 21 inches central cord since the center of the leaf comes from the central cord and is long compared to the other 4 leaves. Made 7 square knots and left the center long as seen in the image 5.
Using the same doggy hair brush I brushed and uniformed all the threads.
I took the second one-sided paper and folded it into half and drew peepal leaf. Then cut this leaf on paper. Then, placed this leaf on the cords leaf and cut it carefully.
Stiffening the Leaves
In this step, I added white glue into some water and applied it on the leaves. Let it dry.
Get the Handing Rod Ready
In this step I took the plunger and removed the rubber base and painted the rod in green color.
Hang the Leaves
To hang the leaves, I first started with the central peepal leaf and placed it in the center. Tied with the white cotton cord as seen in image 2. Then, placed 2 leave on the left and 2 on the right at equidistance. All the 5 leave are on the rod.
Hand the Rod
Then I tied the white cotton cord on the ends leaving some cord for hanging.
Incandescent Bulbs
As I planned to hang this above the entry way table, I decided to decorate it with 2 incandescent bulks. I tied them one of each end.
This looks adorable right at the entrance of my house. I hope you like it too.
Thanks for stopping by!
